Description
Position Overview:
We are seeking a motivated and mechanically inclined Industrial Gas Systems Installation Technician to join our Linde team located in East Chicago, IN. In this role, you will safely install cryogenic bulk liquid storage and gaseous supply systems at customer locations across a multi‑state region. You will work with industrial gases including Nitrogen, Argon, Oxygen, CO₂, and Hydrogen and play a key role in ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant system installations.
This position reports directly to the Installation Manager.
This role is an excellent fit for individuals who enjoy hands‑on work, problem‑solving, working independently or within a team, and frequent regional travel.
Responsibilities:
- Install gaseous supply and cryogenic storage systems at customer sites with minimal supervision.
- Travel weekly (50%–75%) throughout a 13‑state region using a company‑provided service vehicle.
- Communicate professionally with customers, vendors, sales teams, and internal support groups.
- Manage daily tasks and priorities independently while maintaining accurate documentation.
- Operate a service vehicle safely and follow defensive driving practices.
- Plan installation activities, prepare job sites, and uphold high safety and quality standards.
Training:
Linde provides comprehensive formal training to ensure safe and successful installation of industrial gas systems.
Work Environment:
- Combination of fieldwork and office-based tasks
- Weekly travel and occasional work outside standard business hours
- Work performed in various weather conditions
- Physical requirements include:
- Climbing ladders
- Accessing elevated equipment
- Working on scaffolds and lifts
- Entering confined spaces
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Mechanical aptitude
- 0–3 years of mechanical or electrical maintenance/repair experience
- Proficiency using common hand and power tools (wrenches, pry bars, chain falls, drills, impact tools, grinders)
- Computer literacy (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, smartphones/tablets for data entry)
- Valid, unrestricted driver’s license
- Basic math skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of piping materials, specifications, and applications
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, basic electrical schematics, and installation drawings
- Experience coordinating or directing outside contractors (crane, electrical, mechanical)
