Senior Investigator, North America

To further that commitment, the Senior Investigator, North America will investigate moderate to complex reports made to the Ethics Office, or as otherwise instructed by the Ethics Office Leadership Team, to ensure the prompt and thorough investigation and resolution of complaints involving suspected violations of laws, BD Code of Conduct, BD policies, relevant industry codes, or BD ethical standards. Investigations may include, but are not limited to, allegations of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, anti-bribery and corruption, violations of quality, regulatory, or manufacturing standards, financial/accounting violations, and conflicts of interest.
This position will report to the Director, Ethics Office. This position is remote. Travel throughout North America to conduct investigations, often with short notice, is required.
Key responsibilities include:
Ensure the timely completion of assigned investigations of complaints made via any of the multiple sources for reporting concerns, such as the company Ethics HelpLine, regulatory agencies, employee relations escalations, etc., and in accordance with the Company investigation guidelines.
Conduct and document effective investigations with full understanding of corporate investigation best practices, and consideration of sensitivity to associates, ensuring their fair and respectful treatment in accordance with applicable policies, guidelines and/or laws.
Collect sensitive and confidential information and documentation from appropriate sources, including through claimant, witness and targeted employee interviews, integrate and analyze facts and data from internal systems, prepare and submit reports related to investigations, and develop remedial action based on investigation findings.
Collaborate with various individuals and departments, establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of management, employees and Subject Matter Experts such as Legal, Ethics and Compliance, Internal Audit, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Privacy, Information Security, and Human Resources/Employee Relations as needed to coordinate investigation-related activities.
Maintain an unbiased approach and appropriate level of confidentiality throughout the investigation process. Communicate verbally and in writing with appropriate parties. Provide guidance to all levels of management on appropriate corrective action, ensuring consistency of guidance.
Support other areas of the Ethics & Compliance function as needed, such as: periodic monitoring, testing, and analysis of ethics and compliance data; conducting ethics-related training; and supporting policy governance.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in an applicable field.
Minimum of 5 years professional level experience in managing moderate to complex workplace investigations, with demonstrated experience in writing investigative reports preferred. Accounting, internal audit, finance experience a plus.
Demonstrated experience in a lead role conducting investigations and managing the investigative process as the lead investigator.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of federal and state employment and labor laws and applicable compliance regulations (e.g., False Claims Act, Anti-Kickback Statute, the Sunshine Act)
Deep knowledge and application of workplace investigation procedures and principles.
Demonstrated ability to think critically and apply sound judgment.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent computer, IT, and mobile technology skills.
