Product Engineering Supervisor
JOB DIMENSIONS:
Job Summary:
Under minimal supervision, applies extensive experience and engineering knowledge in the research, development, testing and support of new and improved products in their assigned markets; oversees activities and evaluates performance of market Design Engineering staff; drives new and improved designs through the document and manufacturing processes; addresses technical engineering questions from Manufacturing, Sales, Inspection, and Assembly departments; maintains accurate engineering records; performs related duties as assigned.

Engineering Manager or Assistant Engineering Manager
Provides Oversite and Contributes to Evaluations of:
Design Engineers and other subordinate personnel, as assigned
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assigns and coordinates all work of subordinate Design Engineering staff;
• Maintains close working relationship with Test, Manufacturing, Foundry, Machine Shop, and Assembly departments to provide engineering support for responsible market products;
• Uses production management programs and word processing software to create, store, revise and retrieve engineering records, documents, and associated digital product information;
• Performs employee performance reviews as assigned and directed;
• Reports to department heads and company President/CEO regarding ongoing and upcoming engineering market activities;
• Performs other related duties, as assigned;
• Regular punctuality, attendance, and absence reporting in conformance with company policies is essential to the successful performance of this position; and
• Fully comply with and enforce company rules, policies, procedures, and safety guidelines to ensure safe and effective operations.
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:
Any combination equivalent of, but not limited to, the following:
Experience/Training/Education:
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field, minimum 8 years of experience in the design and development of mechanical, electro-mechanical and/or hydraulic components, parts and systems; understanding of casting design, machine shop and foundry practices; trained in PC operation, applicable computer language, AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks CAD, and/or equivalent CAD software programs, as well as advanced knowledge of spreadsheet software programs (Excel). Ability to learn company, configuration management, and engineering procedures.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Extensive knowledge in the design, development and manufacturing processes associated with products such as valves, valve-like components, and pressure vessels;
• Advanced knowledge of manufacturing processes (sand and investment castings, metal machining equipment) and/or prior exposure to products manufactured in high mix machine shop environments;
• Extensive knowledge of drafting practices (form, fit, function, and dimensional tolerancing);
• Ability to read and understand military specifications and schematic drawings;
• Ability to read and write complex test procedures and reports;
• Ability to organize and manage design projects, keep appropriate records, and manage competing priorities;
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions;
• Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with vendors, staff, and customer representatives;
• Ability to concentrate upon technical tasks for extended periods of time;
• Ability to compile and maintain accurate records; and
• Ability to fluently communicate (read, write, and speak) in the English language.
