Description of Work

This position is located at Central Prison Healthcare Complex, Raleigh, NC. Central Prison is a close-custody prison housing male offenders. Central Prison Healthcare Complex serves as the hub for healthcare for the male inmate population. The facility is designed to house a maximum capacity of 1318 offenders.

The Safety Consultant II responsibilities include independent site inspections of correctional facilities, leased or owned offices and manufacturing plants on an annual basis to identify unsafe conditions and safety or health violations. Responsible to know and research all applicable occupational safety and health regulations of OSHA, NIOSH, NC Building Codes, National Electrical Code; ANSI; Workplace Safety Standards; Joint Commission on Accreditation for Health Care; Center for Disease Control; NC Public Health Reg; NC Admin Codes and General Statutes; Code of Federal Regulations. Provide advanced safety services and consultation to all subsets of the department. Working knowledge of fire detection and alarms, fire suppression systems, smoke control and smoke evacuation, remote controlled exit doors with redundant systems, TB isolation rooms, cut and sew operations, metal fabrication and finishing, steam boiler installations and hazardous chemical warehouses. Responsible for developing solutions and recommending corrective actions to appropriate management personnel for all identified hazards. Reviews recordable accidents information during each facility inspection to identify occupational injury and illness trends which may be developing and address those with appropriate managers to help facilitate countermeasures and interventions to reduce the incidence of cases. In the event of discovering critical conditions of regulatory violations or imminent dangers to staff, visitors or sentenced offenders, the safety consultant has the Safety Director's authority to issue a compelling order to end the exposure of people, structures or the environment to serious hazards. Using knowledge of the standards, guidelines and regulations, the safety consultant position has responsibilities to conduct investigations and special assignments from the safety director regarding organizational development, research, application development and training.

Salary Range: $46,206.00 - $94,255.00

  • Demonstrated and documented experience where the knowledge of fire detection and alarms, fire suppression systems, smoke control and smoke evacuation, remote controlled exit doors with redundant systems, TB isolation rooms, cut and sew operations, metal fabrication and finishing, steam boiler installations and hazardous chemical warehouses was used in a former or present position.
