Job Overview

The Pre-Apprentice Program will cover fit-up, tack weld, and finish weld on sub-assembled components and main frames of construction equipment using (GMAW) “mig” welding process.  Uses related fabrication equipment and tools as needed.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Fall Semester:
    • Student welder will complete 5 months of training, learning welding skills in the weld lab.
    • Student welder must pass the weld test (AWS D14.3) that qualifies them to weld on production frames.  MIG welding with .045 and .052 welding wire with a spray arc transfer.
    • Student welder will train on carbon arc gouging and overhead crane operation.  Note, students will only go through the training of cranes--we do not allow them to operate cranes until they are 18 years old with direct supervision).
  • Spring Semester:
    • Student welder will work 1 month at a tack weld station.
    • Student welder will work 1 month at a finish weld station.
    • Student welder will work 1 month at a robot station.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Must be entering their Senior year and on track to graduate in May 2024.
  • Must be nominated by school administrators/instructors.
  • Must be enrolled in advanced level CTE courses.
  • Must have OSHA 10-hour certification.
  • Must maintain passing grades and meet all academic standards throughout the school year.
  • Must maintain 90% school attendance or above.
  • Must commit to both Fall and Spring semesters.
  • Must be in good standing regarding disciplinary/behavioral issues.
  • Must pass AWS D14.3 qualifications.
  • Must project a cooperative and positive attitude toward customers, employees, and the Company.
  • Some standing, kneeling, stooping, reaching, pushing, and pulling.  Must be able to lift a maximum of 50 pounds.
  • Must comply with all environmental, quality and safety rules, practices, and standards.
