Economist/Senior Economist (FADCP)

The Climate Policy Division of the Fiscal Affairs Department (FAD) of the IMF is seeking to hire an Economist (Fiscal Sector Expertise), specialized in issues related to climate change, to shape and support the multilateral and external engagement of FAD with IMF member countries both directly and more broadly through the development of policy analysis and guidance.

The successful candidate will help drive FAD’s climate agenda in one or more of the areas below:

• Lead the division’s work as the Fund Secretariat for the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action.

• Contribute to the development and implementation of the Coalition Co-Chairs’ strategy, liaise with the Secretary of the Coalition, maintaining strong working relationships with the Coalition’s Co-Chairs, members and institutional partners on work priorities, governance, and organization.

• Drive the Fund’s engagement with the Coalition, including the preparation of strategic notes, talking points for Management, leading the work on hosting of Coalition Ministerial meetings by the IMF.

• Manage knowledge flows between the Coalition workstreams and relevant Fund departments and collaborate with other departments on the Fund’s substantive input in the workstreams.

• Serve as FAD focal point on multilateral engagements with international fora and networks on climate issues, including UNFCCC, the G20, G7 and COP, in collaboration with others, and participation in COP meetings, lead FAD’s engagement with the UN on climate issues.

• Support the division’s management in the development and implementation of the division’s strategic priorities, including by coordinating engagement with COM on strategic messages, promotion of flagship products, and participation by IMF management in climate events.

• Support the division’s management in other external relations, including donor relations, budgeting and reporting.

The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate extensively both within the IMF and with external stakeholders. The position is expected to require international travel.

Qualifications

The applicants should have an advanced university degree in economics or other relevant area with at least four (4) years of relevant experience. S/he will have strong communication skills, an aptitude for innovation, working with others, strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills and a strong drive for results. Experience in climate diplomacy, an international institution or a ministry of finance would be an asset.

This vacancy shall be filled by a 3-year Term appointment in accordance with the Fund’s new employment rules that took effect on May 1, 2015.
