Grain LNG is a world-class facility with world-class infrastructure, a 600 acre site with over 1 million cubic meters of tank space and two state of the art cryogenic pipelines and jetties capable of hosting the largest LNG vessels in the world (Q-Max). Grain LNG additionally features a Road Tanker Loading Facility, offering 2 loading bays with 32 loading slots per day. We are the gateway connecting worldwide LNG to the European energy market, making a genuine difference to people's lives.

As a Terminal Engineer (Operations), you'll be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Grain Importation Top Tier COMAH Terminal, including the unloading/reloading of LNG tankers. You'll work a standard work schedule (days) at our world-class site in North Kent.

 

Key accountabilities

  • Provide engineering technical support to the terminal operations team, including engineering calculations and design checks, energy and mass balances, in order to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of operations.
  • Responsible for embedding a culture of Continuous Improvement within a team through the use of Performance Excellence, implementing visual performance management and problem solving techniques. 
  • Develop an effective and highly motivated workforce, driving performance excellence, delivering year-on-year cost efficiencies and improvements in productivity and resource utilisation whilst maintaining world-class operational excellence, safety, and customer satisfaction.
  • Work closely with Process, Commercial Operations, Key Stakeholders and Contracting Partners to drive maximum efficiency through the delivery of the annual plan. 
  • Monitor workforce (including contractors) within their discipline or plant area ensuring the delivery of maintenance and / or site operations within an engineering discipline or plant area. Ensuring the service they provide is delivered safely, on time, within agreed budgets and to appropriate levels of performance.
  • Responsible for the safe and time bound completion of a range of duties on high pressure, cryogenic plant and equipment as required including maintenance, plant operation, site delivery of projects, commissioning, complex fault investigation and repair, to ensure optimum efficiency, cost effectiveness, and safety.
  • Responsible for site safety visits to ensure that setting to work has taken place effectively, with the control documentation (NRO, PTW etc) briefed effectively, that roles and responsibilities are clearly understood and procedures are followed and implemented appropriately.

 

About you

What we do isn’t just important – it’s essential. That’s why we look to recruit experts in their field. In this case, we’re looking for someone who has:

 

  • A comprehensive understanding of safety and technical issues and procedures relating to all items of cryogenic and high pressure operations and maintenance of hazardous materials within a specific discipline or plant operation. 
  • This includes the operation and unloading of LNG tankers on either of the two jetties, the LNG stock management, regasification equipment, gas ballasting with the use of recondensers and/or LIN, ensuring that the gas leaving the terminal meets GSMR. You will be responsible for the monitoring of emissions to both land air and water and ensuring that they are within the limits set by the Environmental Agency.
  • Experience of plant operations via DCS (Honeywell Experian), and or producing training packages using a plant simulator.
  • Technical process and engineering knowledge relating to the safety aspects of a top tier COMAH site and Gas Safety Management regulations.
  • Environmental knowledge in respect of day-to-day duties, together with proven ability to respond to emergency situations.
  • Good Project Management skills including management of risk for delivery of projects to scope, time, cost.
  • A strong commitment to process, occupational safety and continuous improvements of safety standards. Understands effects of cultural and behavioural safety.
  • HNC or equivalent in relevant discipline / Degree in Engineering Discipline (desirable).
