When you work for us, you are using Ookla data and insights to advance our mission of better connectivity for all.</span><p> </p><span>We’re looking for a data architect to join the Ookla solutions architecture team and help us process the world’s best collection of data on mobile and fixed internet performance and transform it to valuable insights and features for our end users. As a data architect, you will play a key role in evolving our data platform to meet the future needs of real-time big data processing, low latency analytical queries, AI/ML integration, and growing compliance requirements. In this role, you will design and implement scalable data models, storages and pipelines for critical product features that meet both our end users' and internal stakeholders' requirements while ensuring international compliance.</span><p> </p><span>We are looking for world class talent and the applicants should have hands-on skills and attitude, a strong technical background in software and data architectures, and excellent communication skills.</span><p> </p><span>We are committed to providing you a flexible work environment where individuality, fun, and talent are all valued equally. If you consider yourself innovative, adept at collaboration, and you care deeply about the work you do, we want to talk!</span><p> </p><span>Expectations for Success</span><ul><li><span>You are able to collaborate closely with product managers, data and research scientists and product engineering teams to understand product requirements.</span></li><li><span>You are able to turn product requirements to viable and scalable architectures and implementations in a high data volume environment.</span></li><li><span>You are able to create, communicate and execute architectural and technological roadmaps.</span></li><li><span>You are able to establish and follow data governance frameworks, standards, and best practices to ensure data quality, security, and compliance.</span></li><li><span>You are able to mentor and guide junior team members, helping them understand architectural principles, best practices, and effective ways of working.</span></li></ul><span>Requirements</span><span>We are looking for the right person, not the exact list of requirements. If you believe your experience has prepared you for similar challenges, we’d like to hear from you.</span><span>Education &amp; Background</span><ul><li><span>Bachelor's or master’s degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience</span></li><li><span>Background check is required</span></li></ul><span>Technical Skills</span><ul><li><span>Strong background in object oriented and functional programming using languages like Python, Scala, Java or Go</span></li><li><span>Strong working knowledge of SQL, databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redshift, Iceberg and query engines like Athena and Trino</span></li><li><span>Experience with streaming and event-driven architectures to process high volume data using tools like Spark</span></li><li><span>Strong understanding of data modeling and modern data warehouse architectures like lakehouse</span></li><li><span>Experience with at least with one of AWS, Google Cloud Platform or Azure services</span></li><li><span>Experience with AI/ML is nice to have</span></li></ul><span>Professional attributes</span><ul><li><span>Excellent troubleshooting and analysis skills</span></li><li><span>Strong communication skills both in person and via virtual mediums</span></li><li><span>Strong planning and time management skills</span></li><li><span>A self-driven work ethic</span></li><li><span>Excited to learn and work with new technologies in a dynamic environment</span></li></ul><span>Benefits</span><span> </span><span>We care deeply about each other and the work we do, and our perks are just one way we demonstrate this.
