Job Description:

Metro State University, a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System, is seeking to hire an Assistant Professor of Accounting. This is a full-time probationary position within the Department of Accounting and will start on August 17, 2026.

Description of College/School/Unit: The College of Business & Management, located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is a catalyst for positive change, a beacon of hope, and an institution promoting lifelong learning where learners become passionate citizens and ethical leaders capable of transforming their communities. The College transforms lives by providing equitable access to a high-quality, affordable business education. With a commitment to inclusion and civic engagement, we engage our diverse learners in acquiring the skills and knowledge required to drive organizational evolution. The College hosts five departments that serve approximately 2,300 full-time and part-time students with 35 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 129 community or adjunct faculty, 9 academic advising staff, and five staff.

The School/Academic Department: The Accounting Department at Metropolitan State is a leader in accounting education in the region and is positioned to help prepare students for the future of accounting positions. The future relating to using, analyzing, developing, deploying, and managing accounting information looks extremely bright.

Responsibilities:

Faculty members are expected to:

  • Demonstrate the ability to teach Accounting Information Systems and Financial Accounting courses effectively to a post-traditional student population.

  • Curriculum development in accounting information systems and financial accounting.

  • Teaching in BS/BA, MS/MA, and/or MBA or DBA programs.

  • Teach in-person and distance education courses as needed by the department, college, or university

  • Contribute meaningfully to the assessment of student learning at program, college, and institutional levels.

  • Engage in scholarly activity, creative achievement, and/or research.

  • Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study.

  • Contribute to student growth and development through advising and student academic or career guidance.

  • Engage in service to the department, college, university, and community.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to serving a diverse student body by delivering a student-centered education and using approaches that support equitable outcomes for all students.

  • Provide excellent learning environments through in-person, online, and/or hybrid course modalities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A completed terminal degree (Ph.D. or DBA) from a regionally accredited institution in accounting or a broadly related field (such as MIS, Finance). Applicants who will complete their terminal degree by August 2026 will also be considered.

  • Demonstrated ability to teach and design curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels in accounting information systems and financial accounting that effectively engage a diverse, contemporary student population, and contribute to meaningful assessment of student learning. Courses to include, but not limited to, Accounting Information Systems and Financial Accounting.

  • Demonstrated success in teaching and professional service activities.

  • A plan for scholarly activity, creative achievement, and/or research in the specified discipline(s), or related disciplines.

  • Effective Communication skills (written & verbal) to communicate with a variety of persons and groups.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an institution with a culturally, economically, and linguistically diverse workforce and student population.

  • Demonstrated ability and desire to work collegially with faculty and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds.

  • Candidate must live or be willing to relocate to Minnesota and teach face-to-face courses.
