What are Trust Fund Positions?Trust Fund positions are unique to the Smithsonian. They are paid for from a variety of sources, including the Smithsonian endowment, revenue from our business activities, donations, grants and contracts. Trust employees are not part of the civil service, nor does trust fund employment lead to Federal status. The salary ranges for trust positions are generally the same as for federal positions and in many cases trust and federal employees work side by side. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden seeks a dynamic and accomplished Gift Officer to help build and manage a portfolio of high-capacity prospects and donors in support of the Museum’s overall fundraising goals. Reporting to the Director of Advancement, the Gift Officer will work to raise support for the Hirshhorn through individual giving to advance institutional priorities.Key responsibilities include conducting prospect research; developing and executing strategic cultivation and solicitation plans; preparing proposals and gift agreements; and managing donors throughout the full lifecycle of major giving. The Gift Officer will partner closely with the Museum Director and Director of Advancement to support their fundraising efforts and will collaborate with finance and gift processing staff to ensure accurate recording, acknowledgment, recognition, and stewardship of major gifts and pledges.
