Reports to:  Dental Practice Manager
FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

Position Summary 
The Ortho Registered Dental Assistant will work closely with the orthodontist to provide high-quality dental care to patients.  They will assist in orthodontic procedures, educate patients on oral hygiene practices, and ensure a comfortable and efficient for all patients.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The duties include, but are not limited to: 
  •  Assist the supervising orthodontist in assessing a patient’s teeth and implementing a plan to straighten them
  • Preform routine orthodontic duties for patients’ teeth, including cleaning them and making adjustments to orthodontic gear
  • Clean and sterilize instruments, other medical equipment and work areas
  • Prepare tools for the orthodontist and pass them instruments during procedures
  • Take X-rays, photos, casts, molds and impressions of patients’ mouths to form diagnoses or check treatment progress
  • Support orthodontists during dental emergencies
  • Greet and check-in patients, ask them questions about their appointments
  • Perform clerical tasks, such as organizing and updating patient records, processing payments and scheduling appointments
  • Adhering to OSHA, HIPAA, and CDC guidelines


Qualifications

  • X-ray License required 
  • Current NJ Registered Dental Assistant license 
  • High School diploma or GED required 
  • Easily able to learn new technologies and systems required and demonstrates a desire to learn 
  • Applicable licensing required for the state in which you will work: 
  • For NJ - Dental Radiologic Technologist (DRT) license or willing to pursue licensure immediately required. 
  • immediately required 
  • Certified Dental Assistant certificate preferred 
  • 1+ years work experience as a Dental Assistant preferred 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment 
  • Requires some flexibility in scheduling, such as the ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • CPR/BLS certification
  • Knowledge and Skills/Expected Competencies
  • Knowledge of dental instruments and patient care. 
  • Ability to clearly communicate medical information to professional practitioners and/or the general public. 
  • Excellent organization, prioritization, follow up, analytical and time management skills with ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.

The employee may occasionally lift and/or move between 10 and 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. The employee may need to travel to healthcare practices.
