Job Summary

The Department of Teacher Education (DTE) in the College of Professional Education (COPE) invites applications for the position of Department Chair. The DTE faculty searches for a candidate who can balance both the leadership and administrative responsibilities required to effectively oversee the operation of the Department of Teacher Education. The Department Chair reports to the Dean of the College of Professional Education and serves as a part of the College administrative team as well as DTE’s representative to the broader University community.

University Information

Texas Woman’s University (TWU) is the nation’s largest university system primarily for women and a federally recognized Hispanic-Serving Institution. TWU is situated approximately 30 miles north of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and is home to approximately 16,433 graduate and undergraduate students across three campuses; Denton, Dallas, and Houston respectively. TWU operates three campuses: Houston, Dallas, and Denton. The Department of Teacher Education operates on the main campus in Denton. The City of Denton has a population of 140,000 and is home to two universities, an active music scene, family friendly events and festivals, unique restaurants, and the historic Downtown Square. Denton is located just 40 miles north of the Dallas/Fort Worth city centers. This metroplex, the nation's fourth largest urban center, has world-class museums, orchestras, opera, ballet, theater companies, as well as an array of professional and collegiate sports venues.

Department and College

The Department of Teacher Education (DTE) is one of four academic components comprising the College of Professional Education. The Department of Teacher Education contributes significantly to the mission of the University through scholarly endeavors, engagement of students, and outreach to the community and profession. The DTE currently offers both graduate and undergraduate programs/certifications.

Essential Duties

The DTE Chair serves in a dual administrative/faculty capacity, representing both the faculty and administration in all academic matters within an environment of shared governance. The Department Chair position is a 12-month administrative appointment. Essential duties include:

1. Providing visionary guidance and leadership to faculty
2. Advocating for all faculty, staff, students, and programs within the department
3. Leading and managing department personnel, budget and resources
4. Overseeing program review
5. Overseeing course scheduling
6. Mentoring faculty to secure external funding

Additionally, the Department Chair is expected to foster collegiality, promote a positive team environment within the department, and encourage innovative practices that build on the university strategic initiatives including increasing enrollment, scholarly productivity, curricular effectiveness, and inclusive practices.

The position is expected to begin in January 2024.
