Job Summary: The Business Analyst is the liaison between business area and technical organization by researching, planning, and conducting the analysis of complex business problems.  Identifies, evaluates and develops systems and procedures that are cost effective and meet business requirements, removing wasted steps and identifying gaps.   Works with user groups to provide training, resolve questions, assess user needs and recommend changes.  Prepares specifications for system changes, develops system test plans, and reviews test output to ensure required specifications are met.
 

Primary Responsibilities Other duties may be assigned as necessary:

  • Collaborate within the departments to identify, document and communicate business needs and liaise with IT for solutions
  • Drive departmental initiatives, programs and systems
  • Plan, elicit, capture, analyze and validate business functional requirements
  • Perform current state analysis of existing business systems, applications and functions
  • Analyze data and assist in determining scope
  • Troubleshoot potential business system issues and escalate to IT if needed
  • Produce timely and high-quality requirements-related work products, including requirement specifications, process flows and mock-ups
  • Works independently and leads assignments/projects of varying complexity
  • Monitor and perform follow-ups on open projects/defects
  • Answer questions and clarify requirements for projects, defects and enhancements
  • Understand the relationships, dependencies and impact of neighboring business functions
  • Develop an understanding of core systems and applications
  • Evolve into a subject-matter expert to collaborate with other departments and IT to develop business cases associated with new project requests as well as existing client processes
  • Involvement in Testing/UAT
  • Assist in the processing of files in production, as needed, to ensure the department meets service level agreements

Primary Skills and Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.    

  • Bachelor's Degree or related field or equivalent experience in professional work.
  • 5+ years of experience as Business Analyst or equivalent experience in professional work.
  • Extensive experience planning, facilitating, eliciting, documenting and managing business, functional and technical requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects, activities and tasks under time constraints.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, creative and efficient in identifying issues and understanding and proposing   solutions
  • Ability to understand and work closely with other departments, teams and employees
  • Proven Project Management skills
  • Insurance Industry knowledge (preferably Medicare Supplement experience)
  • Knowledgeable about core business functions, processes and workflows associated with assigned business areas and projects related to insurance
  • Technical knowledge of underlying systems and the impact on the business
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Preferred knowledge of Windows, HPUX (Unix), Microsoft .NET, Microsoft SQL Server, Internet /Intranet.
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to be punctual and dependable

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday

  • 37 hour work week
