Position Specific Summary
The Business Analyst I position at the City of Tucson’s Information Technology (IT) Department collaborates closely with the Business Relationship Managers to understand partner departments’ requirements, analyze business processes, and deliver IT solutions that align with their strategic objectives. This position will bridge the gap between IT and business stakeholders within the City, ensuring that IT solutions meet their needs and contribute to their success.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Information Technology Manager. This position does not supervise.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborates with stakeholders through interviews, workshops, and meetings to gather an understand of their business objectives, processes, and requirements, document detailed requirements, analyze workflows and identify areas for improvement. Analyzes and prioritizes requirements, identifies gaps, conflicts, and potential issues in requirements and works with stakeholders to resolve them. Partners with Business Relationship Managers to understand client needs and objectives and assists in defining IT strategies and solutions to support them. Assists in the development of proposals, business cases, and project charters for IT initiatives in collaboration with Business Relationship Managers.
- Creates and maintains various system reports, data queries, scripts, workflow, and automated tasks using structured query language and database management tools. Creates visual representations for stakeholders ensuring comprehensive, accurate, and accessible documentation. Updates documentation as project requirements evolve and translates technical concepts into non-technical language for business stakeholders and vice versa.
- Initiates departmental meetings with business stakeholders to understand Use Case and gather business requirements. Facilitates meetings and workshops with business stakeholders to gather feedback, review deliverables, and ensure client satisfaction. Facilitates communication between technical teams and business stakeholders to ensure alignment and successful project delivery.
- Works closely with technical teams throughout the IT department to translate business requirements into technical specifications and design solutions that meet business needs. Evaluates alternative solutions, assesses feasibility, and recommends the most appropriate approach based on business objectives, technical constraints, and other factors. Collaborates with IT architects and IT developers within department to ensure that proposed solutions align with architectural standards and best practices.
- Assists Business Relationship Managers in managing client expectations, resolving issues, and addressing IT solution concerns to ensure client satisfaction and maintain positive relationships. Understands and actively addresses the client's needs and concerns related to IT solutions, collaborating with the Business Relationship Managers to ensure effective solutions.
- Stays current on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies related to business analysis and IT. Identifies process improvement opportunities and contributes to the development and adoption of business analysis standards, methodologies, and tools.
- Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
