The Department of Emergency & Military Affairs (DEMA), led by The Adjutant General, provides emergency management and military capabilities to the citizens of Arizona and the nation. The Emergency Management Division consists of three sections—operations, preparedness, and financial administration. Each section works collaboratively across the agency and with external partners to manage emergency responses and reduce the impacts of disasters. Additionally, DEMA is the headquarters for the Arizona National Guard, the primary combat reserve of the United States military. The Arizona Army and Air National Guard provide military forces and equipment to accomplish community, state, and federal missions.

Job Summary:

Provides in-house full-time building maintenance on facilities under the care of the Facilities Management Office. Under general supervision, Incumbent will oversee a variety of program tasks including but not limited to: routine maintenance and repair involving minor electrical, minor plumbing, minor carpentry, general preventive maintenance and repair, including minor remodeling and construction of buildings and utility support services equipment. Assists with custodial duties as needed on buildings as assigned.

Job Duties:

• Repairs & maintains buildings and grounds assigned by supervisor to Include, but not limited to, routine maintenance and repair, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, preventive maintenance and repair. May also assist with training. Responsible for performing tasks within established guidelines and instructions; must adhere to and demonstrate safety rules and procedures as well with regard to national and local building codes. Is required to take Immediate action in emergency situations and is responsible for timely reporting for corrective action. Responsible for minor remodeling and construction of buildings and utility support services equipment and electrical and plumbing.
• Maintains a record of material used, equipment. Working hours expended, vehicle mileage and other information as required for work projects.
• Maintain and operate the fire pumps and backup generators.
• Coordinates work with vendors for assigned projects.
• Assists FMO maintenance staff on projects as needed to include minor repairs and maintenance involving basic projects as assigned through FMO supervision.
• Assures all work complies with State and Federal codes.

Knowledge of:
• Common hand tools used in the workplace.
• Federal and local safety laws, rules and policies governing work activities and safety equipment.
• National and local building codes.
• Equipment, materials, methods and practices in generalized preventative maintenance, repair, remodeling and construction.

Skilled in:
• Applying Federal and local safety laws, rules and policies.
• Basic computer skills and programs (Microsoft Office, Pride Web and APP)
• Use of common hand tools.
• Communicating by orally and in writing
• Good oral and written communication.

Ability to:
• Understand Federal and local safety laws, rules and policies and using safety equipment.
• Understand National and local building codes.
• Maintain personal relationships

Selective Preference(s):

Desired qualifications include any combination of experience, education, and training that meets the knowledge, skills, and abilities as described. Previous experience and/or successful completion of relevant training courses and/or coursework at an accredited college or university. The ideal candidate will have the following training: confined space entry, asbestos abatement, HAZMAT handling, management and supervision, US Army road maintenance workshop, uniform traffic control devices certification, and heavy equipment operations.

• This position requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)
