Position Purpose:
The Bookstore Specialist will be responsible for providing excellent customer care, and a welcoming environment to all our patrons (students, staff, and guests). You will be a part of product placement and floor cleanliness to continue to keep the store looking professional and welcoming. Hours and schedules will vary and will include some evenings and weekends as needed.
Essential Duties:
- Acts with integrity, honesty, and knowledge that promotes the culture, values, and mission of Charis Bible College.
- Maintains a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events.
- Anticipates customer and store needs by constantly evaluating the environment and customers for cues, assisting guests with the products in the bookstore.
- Delivers excellent customer service to all customers by acting with a customer-comes-first attitude while connecting with the customer. Discovers and responds to customer needs.
- Follows operational policies and procedures, including those for cash handling, safety, and security, to ensure the safety of all associates during each shift.
- Maintains a clean and organized workspace so that team members can find resources and products as needed.
- Receives payments in the form of cash or credit card for product sales, including making change and providing receipts. Adhering to strict cash-handling procedures.
- Daily deposits/balancing and entering information into an Excel spreadsheet.
- Stock inventory on the store floor and help maintain storage areas – create pricing labels, tag new items, enter products into inventory counts.
- Operating Point of Sale equipment. (Shopify)
- Assist with inventory of stock counts performed quarterly or as needed.
- Assist the Bookstore Manager/Supervisor with displays, store design, and ideas for new products.
- Open/close the bookstore.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Friendly, outgoing, and customer service-oriented is a must.
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed during conferences and events.
- Must be able to work alone as well as in a team setting.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and following directions effectively.
- Must be able to effectively operate Windows-based computers and navigate Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to operate Point of Sale equipment.
- Ability to accurately make change with U.S. currency and possess strong mental health skills.
- Must be able to lift 35 lbs and must be able to stand for a shift of up to 8 hours.
- Familiar with Andrew Wommack's teachings to be able to guide customers.
Requirements:
- Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Must sign the Statement of Faith.
- A high school diploma or equivalent education is required.
- Charis Bible College graduate is preferred.
- Must pass all required checks.
Experience:
- Cash handling and cashier experience are preferred.
- Minimum 6 months of customer service experience required. Volunteer experience in hospitality or other customer service roles may also qualify.
- Compensation is commensurate with experience.
