As a Bioprocess Development Associate III at Amyris, you will support the development and pilot-scale production efforts in our pilot plant. The successful candidate will work closely with members of the pilot plant and process development teams who are responsible for fermentation, downstream recovery and purification.

Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all facility safety protocols and policies to maintain a secure working environment.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot fermentation and purification equipment
- Monitor process parameters, identifying deviations and opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Diagnose and resolve process issues, providing technical feedback to enhance operational performance.
- Support technology transfer initiatives, facilitating seamless scale-up from laboratory to pilot plant and potential manufacturing operations.
- Lead pilot plant operations for assigned projects, ensuring smooth execution and alignment with project goals.
- Sample processes and prepare them for routine analysis
- Record and analyze process data, entering findings into designated web applications and databases.
- Utilize basic laboratory techniques, procedures, and assays to support bioprocess development activities.
- Perform clean-in-place (CIP) procedures and set up process equipment, including fermenters, portable tanks, centrifuges, homogenizers, and filtration systems.
- Operate centrifuge systems, Tangential Flow Filtration (TFF), and chromatography systems, ensuring efficient process execution.
- Communicate effectively within a team environment, demonstrating the ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently.
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in an R&D process development environment, specifically in fermentation operations, ideally involving microbial processes.
- BA/BS in Biochemistry, Life Sciences, or a related field(or equivalent experience)
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong understanding of Fermentation and/or Separation processes
- Strong understanding of aseptic and sterilization operations and experience with laminar flow hoods
- Understanding of Centrifugation, TFF and chromatography operations
- Demonstrated ability to write, revise and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for routine work and receive instructions for new processes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams)
- Ability to be a team player with strong problem-solving and communication skills, ensuring effective collaboration and operational success
- Excellent math skills for performing calculations related to fermentation processes
- Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple priorities efficiently
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic; able to work independently without constant supervision
Physical requirements
- Ability to stand up to 6 hours per day while monitoring operations and performing tasks
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and safely move portable tanks ranging in size from 10L to 1000L
- Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required.
