A Day in the Life
The employee will be working in the Systems Engineering team - R&D department and will build experience in the design validation process of medical devices. The employee will be part of a team that defines and conducts evaluations for the design validation of new products and/or released product improvements in the surgical operating unit pipeline.Location: North Haven, CT
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
- Establishment and Optimization of test methods and protocols for studies.
- Execution of bench top, simulated tissue and wet lab studies utilizing surgeons, PAs, nurses as subject matter experts to gather feedback on the performance of the test device.
- Utilization of design for reliability and manufacturability tools and principles.
- Observation of robotic and/or laparoscopic surgeries in hospital settings.
- Engagement with medical professionals, such as doctors, PAs and nurses to understand user needs.
- Document writing to include assessment analysis, VOC results, study reports, etc.
- Designs, develops and provides safety testing, repair, and maintenance of biomedical equipment.
- Ensures that the biomedical equipment is in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and quality control standards.
- Design studies and conduct research on enzyme reactions and the effects of organic compounds on biological processes.
- Participate in activities such as compound screening and compound optimization programs, and developing and running enzyme assays.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering or related engineering field with 0+ years of engineering experience
Nice to Have
Professional experience in the medical device industry
Experience with the application and use of medical devices in minimal invasive surgery
Experience with performing root cause analysis techniques
Experience with benchtop performance evaluations
Experience with writing documentation for the planning, execution, and reporting of pre-clinical studies
Experience using a variety of office, engineering and project management software applications including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, OneNote, SharePoint, PowerPoint, etc.), JIRA, JAMMA and Agile
Detail-oriented with strong commitment to quality and to the workplace with the ability to efficiently multitask
Strong analytical, communications [both oral and written forms] and organizational skills
