FUNCTION:
This job classification handles basic service calls from customers including service connects, service disconnects, establishing new customers and setting up new customer accounts. Handles non-routine and complex customer inquiries, complaints, and problems by telephone and face-to-face contact in a courteous and efficient manner. Investigates and analyzes customer accounts and prepares the required service order, adjustment, statement, or other document. Performs duties to assure customer satisfaction and accuracy of customers’ accounts. Makes arrangements to collect unpaid bills or order disconnection of service for non-payment or for violation of Company or State Rules and Regulations.
Performs other duties which may be requested by authorized personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A high school graduate or equivalent with one (1) or more years of college or technical school training or equivalent with at least two (2) years experience as a Customer Credit Representative or experience in direct customer service activities. Must be able to communicate courteously and effectively in person or by telephone and must be able to type and use other standard office equipment and pass the applicable tests. Must successfully complete the Customer Service Training program. Must work extended business hours, selected holidays and overtime as required. Must conform to departmental standards for wearing apparel and personal grooming. All other general qualifications such as attendance and punctuality, safety and performance records will be considered.
Additional consideration will be given for the following job related training or experience:
(1) College level courses in psychology, human relations, communications or the equivalent;
(2) Previous customer contact experience in a similar customer oriented business;
(3) Fluency in a foreign language and/or sign language; and
(4) Any other qualifications contributing to the applicant's ability to perform the job.
Working Conditions: Indoor work in clean, well lighted, heated and ventilated surroundings.
