About the Team

Workday has launched an Enterprise Data and Analytics (ED&A) Team to Transform and optimize the way Workday creates and shares trusted data to drive actionable insights and data led innovation across the enterprise. To enable this strategy, the ED&A team has worked with the business to identify critical business areas in which data and analytics can make a material difference in the execution of Workday’s strategic goals. Each of these goals is being organized as a data product with a dedicated multi-functional team to drive a diverse set of data management, governance, and data analytics to realize relevant, measurable business change.
As part of ED&A and enabling this strategy, the Enterprise Data Governance team drives the creation of policies, procedures, and operating models that will improve the overall quality and reliability of data across Workday in support of operational and analytical strategic business outcomes.

About the Role

Reporting to Senior Director of Enterprise Data Governance, the Senior Data Governance Engineer will support Workday’s data consumers to accelerate the speed of delivery and the trust of business in the analytics that they consume. Responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of Data Governance policies, standards, and processes as code within ED&A ecosystem (Governance as Code).
  • Collaborate with the Data Engineering/Platform team to build clear documentation and repeatable processes for data availability and intake.
  • Ensure adherence to Data Governance policies and procedures for data ingestion, data classification, and data ownership.
  • Implement and supervise role-based access controls (RBAC) in both IT-managed and self-service environments.
  • Develop remediation plans for incidents and coordinate their successful execution.
  • Define lifecycle management policies and develop automations to improve overall health and relativeness of available data.
  • Establish and lead Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for Data Warehouse governance.
  • Audit the Data ecosystem to ensure compliance.
  • Work with business functions to develop plans for compliance and retention policies.
  • Evaluate and recommend 3rd party technologies that can enhance our Data Governance roadmap.
  • Continuously find opportunities for improvement and automation.
  • Stay informed about data warehouse and data lake trends, including Snowflake feature releases, and collaborate with Data Engineering on development opportunities.

About You

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering or similar
  • 10+ years of software engineering, data engineering, governance engineering, or equivalent experience

Other Qualifications

  • Proven knowledge of enterprise data management, governance, analytics, compliance, and security.
  • Proficient with data lakes/lake houses/warehouses, including administration, security, and data architecture.
  • Advanced SQL and Python skills
  • Experience with data catalogs, glossaries, and metadata management.
