Work Arrangement

Hybrid - This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their work location three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business]. This position has the flexibility to be in Warren, MI, Mountain View, CA, or Austin, TX.

The Role

As a Mobility Product Portfolio Architect – Autonomous & Automated Systems, you will define and lead the architectural strategy across a diverse portfolio of mobility products and solutions, including IMR, AMR, AGV, AGC, AME, and AFT platforms. You will drive technical vision, guide design decisions, and ensure architectural integrity across systems. This role requires deep technical expertise in mobility systems, strong leadership across product domains, and the ability to translate complex strategies into scalable, future-proof solutions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to deliver innovative mobility architectures aligned with business goals.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and maintain the Mobility Product Roadmap, Requirements, Deployment Plan of Record (POR), and Playbooks.
  • Own product-level documentation including L0 requirements, roadmap prioritizations, and enabling technology strategies.
  • Create detailed technical documentation (diagrams, models, specifications) to guide development teams.
  • Lead design reviews, debugging, and performance analysis to ensure solution integrity and scalability.
  • Provide technical leadership throughout the product lifecycle, mentoring architects and development teams.
  • Balance constraints such as cost, resources, compliance, and time-to-launch to deliver viable solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into actionable technical plans.
  • Advocate for process improvements and share best practices across the mobility product portfolio.
  • Ensure alignment of individual projects with broader business strategy and technology standards.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Proven experience architecting and deploying mobility platforms such as IMR (Industrial Mobile Robots), AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robots), AGV (Automated Guided Vehicles), AGC (Automated Guided Carts), AME (Automated Material Equipment), and AFT (Automated Fork Trucks).
  • Deep technical expertise in real-time systems, edge computing, and embedded software architectures for autonomous and semi-autonomous mobility solutions.
  • Experience designing scalable, distributed systems using microservices architecture, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and cloud-native platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Hands-on experience with automation frameworks and control systems including PLCs, SCADA, and MES integration.
  • Advanced skills in performance tuning, debugging, and system optimization across heterogeneous hardware/software environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead architectural reviews, define system interfaces, and manage cross-platform integration challenges.
  • Exceptional ability to translate complex technical requirements into actionable design plans and communicate effectively with engineering and business stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, and ROS (Robot Operating System), with experience integrating sensor fusion, localization, and navigation algorithms.
  • Strong understanding of communication protocols (e.g., CAN, MQTT, OPC UA) and industrial networking standards used in mobility systems.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of mobility solutions across enterprise environments.
  • Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman) and systems thinking.
  • Hands-on experience with automation technologies such as RPA, MES, WMS, and orchestration platforms.
  • Proven success in aligning cross-functional teams and driving architectural consistency across business units.
  • Background in process improvement methodologies and organizational transformation through architecture.
