About the role

Location: Washington, DC. Relocation assistance will not be provided.

The Manager, Strategic Operations role is a key member of the US Government Affairs, Public Policy, and Patient Advocacy (GAPPA) team. The Manager will work closely with the Head of GAPPA and the GAPPA leadership team to support operations for the full department. He/she will provide day-to-day operational support and coordinate strategic initiatives across the team to help shape the health policy environment.

The position will:

  • Support the Head of GAPPA and leadership team, including day-to-day planning, communications, project management, and implementation of functional projects;
  • Work closely with the heads of Patient Advocacy and State Government Affairs to support specific strategic projects;  
  • Manage and track organizational resources, including budget, partnering with Finance and team leaders;
  • Coordinate internal and external opportunities, including speaking engagements and strategic collaborations;
  • Work with team leaders to support planning and execution of cross-functional initiatives;
  • Utilize data and analytics to support strategy development and operational excellence;
  • Support meeting scheduling and planning;
  • Work with Directors across the team to create high-quality content and communication strategies; and
  • Help support critical external stakeholder relationships with key trade association workgroups, relevant consultants, and vendors.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years' experience in operations, working in consulting, biopharmaceutical industry, or government
  • Experience managing several projects at one time

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Advanced degree (e.g. MS, MBA)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including writing formal documents for senior leader audiences and comfort using data to tell compelling stories
  • Ability to synthesize and effectively communicate complex, disparate issues in a clear, concise manner through written communication or verbally
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and communication and collaboration platforms/tools such as Smartsheet, MS Teams, SharePoint, and Concur
  • Experience working in biopharmaceutical industry and possesses a working understanding of public policy, government affairs, and patient advocacy
  • Ability to liaise with, influence and manage cross-functional and external partners at multiple levels of seniority
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible, while maintaining a sense of urgency
  • Maintain an entrepreneurial mind-set, taking ownership over the risks and processes you identify for improvement and searching for creative solutions
  • Serve as a focal point of contact for assigned projects and build strong partnership with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, manage multiple initiatives or tasks, and track / report status of assignments and activities

The annual base salary for new hires in this position ranges from $144,500 to $195,500 taking into account a number of factors including work location within the US market, the candidate’s skills, experience, education level and the market rate for the role. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program which is dependent on the level of the role. Available benefits include health care and other insurance benefits (for employee and family), retirement benefits, paid holidays, vacation, and paid caregiver/parental and medical leave.
