About the role

Carrier Corporation is looking for a highly motivated and results driven individual to join the Commercial Airside (AHU) New Product Development team. The successful candidate will work on design and programming of selection software for new products and options to support the growth of the Commercial Airside business. As part of the AHU Engineering team s/he will work with other departments including Product Management, Manufacturing and other R&D teams to continually improve the back-end integration of the selection software with business systems such as ERP, MES and other production systems. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter and able to work independently on projects with moderate supervision.

General Responsibilities:

  • Apply software engineering principles to code parametric engineering designs
  • Analyze existing code to catch up on current software and systems
  • Work cross-functionally with upstream and downstream teams as well as laterally with software and systems architects to implement software into production environment
  • Documentation and maintenance of code over time
  • Utilize Agile methodologies for product development
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities including standard work, Kaizen and VSM events

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Works for Air Handler New Product Development Engineering team to translate Engineering rules into executable Java code
  • Work with 3D geometry and engineering rules to directly support manufacturing using sheet metal flats, CNC Program inputs for manufacturing and bills of material to final forms and assemblies
  • Understand pre-existing Java code behind the current, highly configurable product offering
  • Work with others on the engineering and software teams on the backend for the next generation cloud based front end for selection software
  • Work with the front-end team on code integration to support timely software releases
  • Understand and organize large sets of data to support decision making on product design as well as code optimization

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
  • 2+ years of software engineer experience using Java, JaveScript, and Agile Scrum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • XML Database
  • xQuery
  • VBA
  • Grep, awk, sed
  • SQL
  • DROOLS
  • Cloud computing
  • Knowledge of PTC’s Pro/Engineer (Creo) and WindChill applications
  • Sheet metal, mechanical and electrical design experience is desired
  • HVAC engineering/design/manufacturing experience is preferred
  • SAP experience preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, & PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with MES
  • Ambitious self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced design environment
  • Able to identify and develop continuous improvement projects to influence and drive change
  • Ability to communicate professionally in written and verbal format across a wide audience
  • Proven ability to deliver successful designs under tight timing constraints
