About the role

The Director Finance is responsible for the financial oversight of assigned ministries, including monitoring financial performance, variance reporting, supporting the achievement of productivity and supply chain targets, and participating in ministry level management meetings.  The Director Finance will be a key liaison to accounts payable and payroll process, in support of the managers and senior leaders throughout the ministries.  Furthermore, the director of finance will assist in facilitation of capital projects as prioritized and approved through regional and system processes.  As a part of the regional finance team, the Director Finance will assist with development of ministry budgets, and provide assistance as needed to the ministry senior management team and departmental leaders as they work to achieve annual and long term strategies.  Primary areas of responsibility will also include development and management of dashboards, achievement of internal audit recommendations, and leading special projects as assigned for both the ministry and the region.  Key areas of responsibility include the review of monthly financial statements, and the partnership with the PSJH accounting team to accurately reflect economics representative of operational and clinical services.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

  • Assist the Service Area Chief Financial Officer, Senior Operational Leaders and other executives as appropriate in financial oversight of assigned ministries.
  • Perform all duties in a manner that promotes the mission, values and vision of Providence St. Joseph Health.
  • Monitor financial performance of the ministry/ministries to ensure achievement of financial targets.
  • Assist in the production of accurate financial statements, reflective of operational and clinical services provided at assigned ministries, inclusive of contractual analysis, recording of other net income, and accurate accrual of all expenses.
  • Assist in the review and monitoring of statistical information in order to accurately reflect operational and clinical services.
  • Collaborate with regional finance team in the budget and strategic financial planning process for assigned ministries.
  • Work with other regional finance team members, ministry departmental managers and ministry senior leaders to perform budget variance analysis and to develop and implement improvement plans.
  • Coordinate with ministry administrator on a monthly financial review process.
  • Support productivity management through measurement processes including target setting, and in consideration of benchmarking data.  Assist leaders throughout accountable ministries with implementation of staffing matrices.
  • Participate in ministry management meetings.
  • Assist with review of Institute (a/k/a service line) financial information in order to inform and improve operational plans for assigned campuses.  Support management in understanding the economics related to service lines.
  • Lead special projects as assigned and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Collaborate and engage with other finance team members across the system to share best practices and accomplish system-wide initiatives.
  • Collaborate with regional leadership team to ensure consistent standards of care, employee performance and financial management processes are applied to ensure accreditation and regulatory guidelines are met.
  • Provide leadership to ensure the overall finance role is understood in the organization and broader community.
  • Communicate clearly, regularly and effectively with all levels and functions of the organization to create an atmosphere of mutual respect, openness and encouragement.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Upon hire: Certified Public Accountant (preferred)
  • Upon hire: HFMA or FACHE (preferred)
  • 8 years of experience in a leadership role or capacity
  • 10 or more years of closely related experience
  • Ability to use mathematical methods or formulas to solve a problem.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data.
  • Ability to analyze information, evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Ability to analyze information gathered by investigation, and report findings and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of financial principles and practices
