Research and practice show that to guarantee neighborhood health and prosperity, we must strategically prioritize and aim for: greater racial equity, improved health outcomes, and increased upward mobility.
To achieve this vision, Northside Neighbors cultivates and nourishes an ecosystem of high-capacity, collaborative partners who invest directly in community-led projects. The goal of that work is to uplift the legacy and support the vision of the people who have long called the north Tulsa home. These projects include affordable, high-quality, mixed-income housing; excellent schools that keep student success central in both life and in the classroom; inclusive spaces that nurture and enrich residents’ physical and mental health and foster a sense of belonging; and a thriving commercial core that keeps the neighborhood economically vibrant.
The new executive director will have the opportunity to build upon foundational progress by working with north Tulsa residents, public and private partners to ensure the neighborhood is a platform to prosperity.
The Mandate
Northside Neighbors will continue developing trust within north Tulsa neighborhoods while also championing the neighborhood’s relationships with public and private funders and partners. The inaugural executive director will have the support of an engaged and connected board of directors as well as Purpose Built Communities. A successful executive director will be one who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment and is comfortable wearing many hats as the organization evolves.
The executive director will build the external and internal organizational infrastructure needed to ensure the initiative’s mission is achieved. Key responsibilities include building and nurturing critical relationships, establishing internal operating systems, and simultaneously managing multiple projects and responsibilities. Fundraising, storytelling, and driving community and partner engagement will be critical priorities in the executive director’s first year.
Requirements
Primary responsibilities include:
- Lead Northside Neighbors to support and guide the organization's mission.
- Build and strengthen relationships with the residents in north Tulsa neighborhoods to ensure a community-guided plan that honors both the rich history of the north Tulsa and the aspirations the neighborhoods.
- Lead through the Purpose Built Communities model of mixed-income housing, cradle-to-career education, community wellness, and economic vitality as a means of transforming the neighborhoods.
- Build upon – and grow – the partnership between education, business, and philanthropic organizations to ensure initiative success.
- Secure resources sufficient to ensure the financial health, management, and integrity of the organization and programs it supports.
- Build awareness of Northside Neighbors by communicating its purpose, needs, strategic plans, and accomplishments to diverse audiences through diverse media platforms.
Desired Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be skilled in communication, relationship building, partnership development and management, and resource development; will be a curious and innovative organizational and community leader; and will be trusted as an authentic champion for the community. The executive director will report to a committed and supportive board of directors comprised of civic, community, and business leaders. The executive director will have opportunities to build the Northside Neighbors team as funding increases.
The successful Executive Director will bring proven experience leading strategic and organizational growth to a community-serving organization. The leader will be adept at strategic partnership development and management. Qualified candidates will demonstrate the following:
