We are seeking a Production Attorney with direct on-point production experience to join our Business and Legal Affairs department, providing legal support during all phases of development, production and post-production of animated projects. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND REQUIRED ABILITIES
- 3 to 5 years of law firm or law department experience working in the entertainment industry on entertainment-related contracts and must have development and production experience.
- Knowledge of contract law and legal issues specific to entertainment law (production and intellectual property issues).
- Familiarity with union and guild agreements relevant to the animation industry (e.g., The Animation Guild, The Editors Guild, SAG-AFTRA).
- Direct experience working with agents, managers, legal teams and Business Affairs/Legal Affairs at other studios.
- Ability to review agreements and to trouble-spot legal issues.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, take responsibility for projects, learn and understand policies and procedures and exercise sound judgment based on experience.
- Excellent communication and drafting skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment.
- Member in good standing of the California Bar.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Familiarity with chain of title documents and the ability to identify and/or correct rights issues.
- Draft and negotiate agreements (in concert with and under the direction of the Head of Business and Legal Affairs) relating to animated series development and production which include contracts for rights, writers, directors, producers, actors, key crew, visual effects, leases, location agreements, license agreements as well as other production agreements.
- Handle legal issues that arise during production.
- Compile/review/monitor network and streamer deliverables.
- Coordinate with internal departments, external clients, agents, managers and other industry professionals to facilitate communication and document exchange.
- Monitor and track important dates and deadlines related to contracts, intellectual property filings and other legal matters.
- Maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive information in accordance with studio policies and legal requirements.
- Conduct legal research on issues pertinent to entertainment law, including intellectual property rights, music licensing, copyright, and trademark matters, and provide detailed summaries and analyses.
