Data Center Technician
Classification: Non-exempt, CONTRACT work
Location: Any US Location, 100% TRAVEL REQUIRED
Pay: $30 - $34 p/h, W2;
Reports To: Project Manager
Working Hours: Day and night shift, must work maintenance windows
Summary/Objective: Data Center Technicians will remove, replace, commission, and configure Cisco 8XXX series, large capacity routers and switches in various customer sites across the USA. This equipment is very heavy and will take up 32 RU in the data cabinet. Technicians will travel to various data centers and other facilities to perform assigned duties. Working hours will depend on facility access, and technicians may be required to work late, early, or overnight shifts in order to accommodate customer requirements.
Data Center Technicians must pass a background check and a drug screen.
Essential Functions:
- Technician will perform staging of all network hardware equipment
- Unbox, label, and perform inventory
- Install fabric cards and line cards
- Power-on and burn-in
- Upgrade switches to required software version
- Apply configurations as needed
- Install Cisco routers and switches throughout the country.
- Re-use existing power supplies, network modules, and optics
- Rack, stack, and re-patch drops, like-for-like
- Package and ship existing switch back to Cisco
- Replacement of UCS memory chips on Cisco UCS server
- Fully document completion of installation services
Other Functions:
- Complete all required tests in order to gain access to customer facilities
- Read and understand Scope of Work (SOW) and Memorandum of Procedure (MOP)
- Complete all technical reading and study requirements
- Must be familiar with and be able to comply with standard data center protocols
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- Work will be performed in various US data centers, with specific access requirements
- Must have own standard tools, per tool list; Glow Networks will provide specialized tools
- Extensive use of hand tools, wire cutters, pliers, screwdrivers and specialized wiring tools; electronic tablet to track work tasks; some power tools may also be used
- Adhere to all safety standards around low voltage and high voltage electric power
- 100% travel, Extensive driving may be required
- Glow Networks will provide flights to customer locations, private hotel rooms, rental car, and fuel reimbursement, and an allowance of $30 per day to offset the cost of meals. These apply only when deployed out of home market
Required Education/Experience and Competencies:
- High School Diploma or GED is required
- Valid driver's license and good driving record are required
- Expert installation skills with low-voltage electric and light gauge wiring used for signaling
- Proficient with hand tools such as pliers, wire cutters, wire strippers, screwdrivers, etc.
- Familiar with data center entry, safety and work procedures, equipment layout, power, ground, and ancillary equipment operation, troubleshooting and problem resolution
