The Department of Neurology in the School of Medicine at the University of Virginia seeks an experienced and capable professional to serve as the Clinical Department Assistant Administrator. The position will provide the Chair with professional support and thought partnership in furtherance of department and School of Medicine strategic and operational priorities. This experienced professional will be responsible for reporting on departmental annual goal progress, program oversight and data reporting for the Department Chair and COO. Will work in close collaboration with colleagues on the Chair’s leadership team, this position assumes a wide variety of administrative duties, supports the Chair’s obligations, tracks and supports projects of considerable scope and complexity, and conducts the business of the office with diplomacy, in accordance with school and University policy, and with a strong sense of fiscal responsibility. The Clinical Department Assistant Administrator supports the Department in both complex and routine matters, with the goal of freeing the COO to focus on major priorities.
Duties of the Clinical Department Assistant Administrator will include but are not limited to:
- Leadership Support
- Chair Support - Serve as a thought partner and strategist to the Chair. Work in close concert with department leaders to ensure coordination and alignment of strategic priorities.
- COO Support - Responsible for reporting on clinical operational data and analysis of billing operations to maximize efficiency and optimize operations.
- Project Support - Work with the Chair and COO on projects and goals as assigned. Partner with the Chair’s leadership team and collaborate with faculty and staff to actively drive priorities forward in a consensus-driven environment. Manage projects, both long-and short-term as assigned, and monitor progress on projects.
- Supervision of Department Staff - Evaluated after initial 6 month period in the position by COO.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Demonstrate proficiency in oral and written communication.
- Aptitude for collaboration and relationship-building.
- Demonstrate ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects of widely varying complexity simultaneously, with sustained attention to detail and accuracy.
- Demonstrate proficiency in multiple technology platforms.
- Experience handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Ability to work under pressure, while maintaining a high degree of professionalism.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree
Experience: At least four years of progressively responsible management experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree strongly preferred
Familiarity with trends and challenges in academic medicine
Relevant experience at the University of Virginia
