About the role

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of Brandon M. Steen, MD, Florida Orthopaedic Associates is seeking a skilled Physician Assistant (PA) to support a high-volume orthopaedic practice. This full-time role involves assisting Dr. Steen, an  upper extremity surgeon with a heavy emphasis in shoulder, with surgical coverage, perioperative management, hospital rounding, clinic support, and limited walk-in clinic duties. Key responsibilities include first-assist in surgery, entering orders, providing post-operative care, and helping improve clinic efficiency and patient volume.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide full surgical first-assist coverage for Dr. Steen, heavy emphasis on elective shoulder arthroscopy and joint replacement.
  • General orthopaedic call requirements
  • Enter orders, perform inpatient rounding, and manage post-operative patients
  • See patients in clinic; some Walk-In Clinic coverage expected
  • Hospital rounding with post-op patients
  • Perform comprehensive patient evaluations, histories, and physical exams
  • Assist with pre-operative planning and post-operative follow-up
  • Support efforts to increase clinic volume after training
  • Provide patient and family education on diagnoses, treatment options, and rehabilitation
  • Accurately document care in the EMR
  • Maintain safety, compliance, and best-practice standards
  • Collaborate closely with supervising physicians and clinic teams
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Current Florida PA license
  • Current NCCPA certification
  • Orthopaedic experience preferred
  • Shoulder specialty experience strongly preferred, but not required
  • Strong clinical judgment, efficiency, and excellent communication skills
  • BLS required (ACLS preferred)
