About the role

Johns Hopkins Carey Business School is seeking an energetic and organized professional for the position of Associate Director Student Engagement, Hopkins Bloomberg Center in Washington, DC. This position is responsible for the co-development, implementation and support of all the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) programs and activities at the Carey Business School. The primary function of this position will be to lead student engagement of professional graduate students, to include student organizations and informational programming, specifically at the Hopkins Bloomberg Center (HBC) in Washington DC. This position will work directly with faculty, students, staff and outside stakeholders to identify and implement solutions.


The successful candidate must be able to collaborate, communicate effectively, prioritize multiple tasks, take a proactive approach to work on assignments, and take initiative in the anticipation of future needs of the Student Affairs team at Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.


The incumbent is directly responsible for the following services: supervision of Student Organization Leaders, coordination of engagement activities related to Student Organizations, coordination of a robust calendar of events (including partnership and collaboration with other organizations), collaboration with 3 other JHU schools in Washington DC, and event support.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities


Student Organizations Programming Support (60%)

  • Support program design, delivery and evaluation for Student Organizations. Program focus areas include community impact events, community service, conferences, and other key events.
  • Serve as a coordinating adviser for Student Organizations as they develop and implement activities that support the school’s strategic vision.
  • Provide content and maintain communication channels for all Student Organizations, including online event platform, social media and Carey web page.
  • Manage some financial activity for Student Organizations, including budget tracking.
  • Develop and deliver appropriate educational resources for Student Organization leaders.
  • Assist Student Organizations with support and knowledge regarding University and School policies and procedures.
  • Provide operational support and assist with managing logistics for student programs and events hosted by Student Organizations.
  • Help to increase membership of identity-based diversity organizations.
  • Coordinate with key campus partners in other units of the university and outside organizations regarding student engagement, inclusion, and success initiatives.
  • Collaborate specifically with Career and Life Design and Alumni Relations to maximize Student Organization effectiveness and impact.


Hopkins Bloomberg Center (HBC) Support (20%)

  • Serve as the lead coordinator for Johns Hopkins University protest and demonstration protocol for Carey events.
  • Assist with supporting HBC events regarding the protest and demonstration protocol.
  • Co-create and implement activities and events in the HBC to increase networking for all Johns Hopkins divisions.
  • Serve as the Carey Student Affairs lead on a collaborative outreach committee with other HBC school divisions.
  • Coordinate with Student Health and Wellbeing regarding mental and physical health outreach and services for Carey students in HBC.
  • Work with DC security and staff to respond to instances of DC-based students’ mental health and academic ethics concerns, including managing students with no access to the HBC building.
  • Coordinate with HBC third-party event planning organization on building-specific events.
  • Manage walk-in student concerns for 800 Carey Business School HBC students in collaboration with receptionist and Carey HBC Advising staff.
  • Co-supervise HBC Student Services Receptionist.


Student Affairs Programming and Services (15%)

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive design and logistics plan for student events.
  • Co-create and implement activities and events to increase networking opportunities for all students.
  • Propose and execute new programs based on the student satisfaction survey and other student feedback.
  • Coordinate the Carey Student Mentoring program in collaboration with other Carey offices, to include managing website, marketing, and meeting management.
  • Serve as the lead for Student Affairs mentoring programs for student organizations.
