You can see your work come to life as it is manufactured on-site in production and used at the on-site clinic! Working within a diverse range of engineering disciplines including laser physics, power and digital electronics, mechanics, software, and biomedicine, you will have a direct impact on future Cutera devices and thereby influence the future of medical and aesthetic dermatology.

Job Description

We are seeking a Digital Electrical Engineer experienced in electronic circuits and PCB design, board and system bring-up, debug, test, and documentation to join our core team of experienced Engineers and Scientists in the research and design of new laser and RF devices. While leading your products from design to production, your keen curiosity about systems enables you to gain an in-depth understanding of the device, and your sharp organizational skills inform your ability to independently determine scope and schedule within department goals.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design and test electronics and firmware for lasers and RF devices.
  • Design complex circuits around modern CPU, MCUs including multicore ARM SoC.
  • Design and interface with DDR and SDRAM memories, storage interfaces: eMMC, SDIO, SATA.
  • Design peripheral interfaces, including analog op-amps, balanced drivers, power drivers, AD/DC, DC/DC linear and SMPS, mixed signal ADC as well as digital: USB, HDMI, Ethernet, QSPI, I2C, UART, I2S, GPIO.
  • Independently determine scope and schedule within department goals.
  • Perform schematic capture and PCB layout of all electronics.
  • Design and test PID controllers for temperature and current regulation.
  • Perform design to meet impedance requirements and termination.
  • Oversee electrical safety and EMC testing.
  • Develop test plans for component and system level verification.
  • Work closely with embedded software engineers on board bring-up and system implementation.
  • Troubleshoot and perform failure analysis on existing/new electronic designs.
  • Support designs for high-voltage and high-current power supply designs.
  • Lead design quality initiatives including FMEA, define stress test routines, formulate test plans at the component level, testing validation, Root Cause Analysis, etc.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in active hands-on design of mixed signal circuits and high-speed PCBs.

Required Knowledge & Skills:

  • Understanding principles of mixed signal design, structure of microprocessors and microcontrollers, different type of cores, buses, memory accessing, timer and interrupt functions, and their usability to solve complex design problems.
  • Knowledge of high-speed circuit PCB design methods. Knowledge of trade-offs in PCB design (dielectric material types, stack-up, characteristics impedance, board thickness).
  • Knowledge of IC based circuit solutions in analog, digital and mixed signal domain (practical knowledge of solutions for Logic series derivatives, memories, digital and analog interfaces, sensors conditioners, analog to digital converters, audio and video interfaces, serial and network interfaces, etc.)
  • Strong experience in designing for EMC and EMI.
  • Working knowledge of signal integrity analysis. Digital and analog (Spice) simulation using tools.
  • Self-motivated and experienced engineer capable of performing duties with minimum supervision.

Preferred Skills:

  • Master of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering with focus on mixed signal circuits design.
  • Altium Designer; working knowledge of Concord Pro is a plus.
  • Design around PLD and FPGA using schematic capture and VHDL or Verilog.
  • Cross-functional skills in understanding basic software methods for embedded programming and how it impacts hardware design and vice versa. Experience in hardware design around software capabilities.
