Security Associate Part-time

Responsible for continued compliance of security policies for all buildings of Markel Corporation in Glen Allen, Virginia. Provides security for Markel’s associates as well as physical property. Serves as the first line of contact for all associates, visitors and guests. Promotes positive public relations by offering courteous service to everyone and responding to their requests. Provides a safe and secure workplace for associates, visitors and guests.
Duties
- Addresses and resolves security issues as they arise.
- Maintains sign-in and security event logs. Issues and retrieves temporary pass cards for visitors and guests.
- Periodically patrols building and grounds of Markel buildings.
- Investigates disturbances, complaints, thefts, vandalisms, accidents, intrusions, fires and property damage.
- Assists with building evacuations and maintains an orderly pedestrian flow.
- Secondary contact with local, state and federal law enforcement.
- Assists in conducting risk assessments and vulnerability studies when appropriate
Job Requirements:

Education
- High school diploma/equivalent
- College degree preferred
- Courses in Criminal Justice, Public Safety and/or Emergency Management preferred
Certification
- Current Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, Armed Security Officer
- Current CPR/Basic First Aid
Work Experience
- Minimum of 5 years previous Law Enforcement/Public Safety and/or Corporate Security
Skill Sets
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Word)
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Strong team player
- Flexibility and attention to details
- Ability to work in high stress environment and manage emergency situations
- Ability to lift 75lbs.
