Responsibilities

The Senior Chapter Lead of Development is responsible for the talent, tools and best practices required to deliver solutions through the technologies employed by their chapters. Based on FM Global product and technology vision, the Senior Chapter Lead develops the talent and application development technology roadmaps, ensuring the right skills and tools are available at the right time. Working across chapters, the Senior Chapter Lead is responsive to changing product needs to ensure team optimization. They are constantly searching for opportunities to identify relevant technology trends, efficiencies, and innovations that could improve capabilities or to enhance overall technology product delivery. The Senior Chapter lead acts as practice leader who engages with product owners as a technical subject matter expert and plans and facilitates cross-chapter alignment to match talent and capacity with organizational priorities. Working in partnership with the Senior Chapter Lead of Solution Architecture and other technology practice leaders within and outside of the division, the incumbent ensures alignment with and influences enterprise and architecture technology direction and practices. The Senior Chapter Lead is a strong technical leader responsible for piloting new and emerging technical capabilities and putting legacy tools in containment within their respective Chapters. They manage, support and develop Chapter Leads and indirectly support Chapter members in a professional manner.

Talent Sourcing: Assess temporary and/or permanent candidates for opportunities on product teams to augment team capacity and/or skills. Maintain and refine the interview process and associated material to align with current and future product and technology needs. Work with strategic workforce lead to identify optimal sourcing options. Develop and monitor staffing approach and maintain a budget for contingent labor.

 

Talent Development: Work with chapter leads, product and solution architecture to proactively identify future skill and capacity needs by monitoring product backlogs and product and technology roadmaps. Institute and manage technical training aligned with these needs, working with workforce lead for cross-organizational needs. Implement cross-chapter knowledge-sharing and domain specific activities through guilds and forums. Assess the state of technical capabilities and team health within the organization to assess gaps and plan for future development. Mentor and develop chapter leads. Ensure execution and consistency of performance assessments, compensation, and promotions across chapters. Plan and maintain a training budget.Application Development Tools and Best Practices: Drive the identification, evaluation and recommendation of tools, standards and best practices that support the delivery of secure, performant and reliable applications and that align with technology and feature roadmaps. Document, train and evangelize the implementation of tools, standards and best practices across product teams. Plan and maintain a budget for the purchase and maintenance of technical tools.Cross Chapter Problem Solving: Partner with Chapter Leads and Senior Product Owners to adjust team makeup and backlog assignment across chapters to ensure skills and capacity align with priorities as established by the product organization.Enterprise Initiatives: Facilitate technology-focused cross-team or enterprise initiatives to improve efficiency, compliance and consistency and to drive the evolution of our software and practices.Software Procurement Agreements: Partner with Product in the definition, review and implementation of software procurement agreements for products or platforms of large size or scope.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree Computer Science, MIS, Software Engineering or equivalent
  • 10 years of prior experience in evaluating technologies and technology venders, running effective technology proof of concepts, and managing technology vendor relationships
  • Experience defining process for and conducting interviewing, hiring and personnel assessment.
  • Experience in coaching, mentoring, and developing highly motivated technical leaders.
