The salary range for this position is $7,640 - $10,050 monthly.

Thurston County Public Works is recruiting for a Senior Stormwater Engineer to join our dynamic, energetic, and innovative Water Resources team. The successful candidate will perform a full range of senior level professional civil engineering assignments in both the field and office. Key responsibilities include the review of land development applications for compliance with stormwater related laws and regulations, including, but not limited to; County Codes, Engineering Design Standards, and the Department of Ecology Western Washington Phase II Municipal Stormwater Permit. They also advise permit applicants and other staff members of County stormwater code requirements and low impact development techniques and standards.

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Plans, organizes and supervises the work of assigned staff. Recommends selection, provides orientation and training, evaluates performance, and recommends disciplinary action.
  • Prepares and presents information for community groups and citizens on projects during public informational meetings.
  • Develops project budgets and assists in the preparation of annual operating budget. Approves invoices and monitors expenditures. 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of drainage engineering principles, applied sound engineering judgement, and provides exceptional customer service. 
  • Acts as a division resource in resolving complex engineering problems relating to stormwater management.

Essential Personnel: This position is considered to be an essential worker and may be required to work during non-business hours or closures in order to meet operational requirements and needs. 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work Environment – Quiet office setting in Olympia, Washington. Workload demands may occasionally require work around active construction sites.
  • Schedule - Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Workload demands may occasionally require work outside the assigned work hours.
  • Travel Requirements - Occasional travel may be required to attend meetings, trainings, or to perform work at construction sites.
  • Customer Interactions - Frequent interactions with Thurston County staff and the public.
