This position is the initial point of contact for all potential admissions to the Inpatient Psychiatric Units at the University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC). The incumbent consults with referring providers to determine appropriate level of care needs, and availability of treatment on the Units, in concert with the Attending Psychiatrist, Nurse Manager or designees.

Relevant duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provide oversight to clinical, administrative, and insurance elements of the admissions process.
  • Coordinate with case managers of other medical services where patients who are identified as needing/receiving psychiatric care are located within the hospital.
  • Monitor psychiatric patients awaiting placement, who have been referred by the Psychiatric Consult Service, or are located in the Emergency Department to facilitate placement where appropriate.
  • Monitor and manage the list of patients awaiting placement at UVMMC in the ED.
  • Assess all referred patients for medication compliance, behavioral issues and treatment needs, medical complexity, and overall appropriateness for UVMMC psychiatry units

Education:

  • State of Vermont Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • The University of Vermont Medical Center is moving toward an all Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) workforce. All external candidates hired into, or current employees promoted to, a RN position will be required to obtain their BSN as outlined in the terms of their offer letter.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working in a mental health treatment setting providing direct care and behavioral health interventions.
  • Preferred experience in admissions.
