This position works in a team environment to support the teaching and learning of JCN faculty, staff and students in traditional, hybrid, and online learning environments. Under the direction of the Assistant Dean of Academic Strategy and Operations, the person in this position is responsible for course design and development, learning content creation, and instructional technology training and support. This position is also responsible for providing instructional technology support to JCN staff.Job Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Work collaboratively as part of the team to train and support JCN faculty and staff in the use of instructional technologies to enhance learning materials and environments.
- Assist in the design and development of online programs and courses, as well as associated eLearning content, instructional materials and assessments.
- Assist in the planning, creation and facilitation of training and workshops for JCN faculty and staff on effective teaching practices, instructional technologies, course design, and assessment.
- Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Participation as a member of the JCN Academic Technology & Design team. This includes assisting faculty, as needed, with the classroom technologies and other Center for Teaching & Learning equipment.
- Keep abreast of advances and innovations in teaching, learning, and instructional technology.
- Prepare written documentation, reports, and papers for presentations and publications in support of external funding.
- Participate in JCN committees and team meetings
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree required, with teaching or education background preferred.
- Training in instructional design or related educational technology field preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Previous experience in creating, editing and organizing digital materials is required.
- Multimedia and eLearning content development preferred.
- Experience as a teacher/trainer in any environment desired but not required.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
With guidance and supervision, the Instructional Design Specialist will be expected to create digital content, including documents and multimedia, and design and develop materials and courses for both multiple teaching modalities. Experience with Learning Management Systems (Canvas, in particular), eLearning authoring tools (e.g. Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate), and video editing applications (Camtasia, Adobe Premiere) a definite plus.
INTERNAL/EXTERNAL CONTACTS:
Under the direction of the Director of Academic Technology & Design, this position works closely with the staff in the Center for Teaching and Learning and IS&T as needed, and development teams of Deans/leadership, faculty, information specialists, librarians, programmers, staff, and graphic designers.
