Job Summary

Under supervision, assist with installs, repairs, overhauls, and maintenance of various electrically driven pumps, electrical wiring systems, electric motors, control valves, PRVs, and appurtenant equipment related to water treatment/distribution and wastewater treatment/collections.

Organizational Relationships

  1. Reports to the Maintenance Supervisor
  2. Directs: This is a non-supervisory position
  3. Other: Has frequent contact with other district employees

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in repairing and maintaining pumps, electric motors, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Assist in the performance of reverse alignments and laser alignments of rotating equipment.
  • Assist in testing, troubleshooting, and repairing defects in electrical circuits up to 600 volts AC.
  • Assist in performing Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) on electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Assist in the operation of various diagnostic instruments, hand, electric & air tools.
  • Assist in the operation of a 6,000-lb crane truck for maintenance or repair of equipment as necessary.
  • Performs other such duties as may be assigned. 

Desired Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid Texas Driver's license. 
  • Familiar with standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment related to water utility mechanics.

Ability to:

  • Apply WCID 17 safety standards to prevent accidents.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions and prepare written reports of activities performed. 
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers
  • Deal effectively with the public in stressful situations.
  • Tolerate outside working conditions, including exposure to adverse weather conditions.

 

  • Read and understand electrical and mechanical equipment O&M manuals, including schematics, drawings, blueprints, and technical data instructions.
  • Locate and adjust/repair defects in electrical & mechanical systems and equipment. 
  • Use and care for tools and equipment. 
  • Work overtime as required. 
  • Work on-call as required.
  • Work in confined spaces such as manholes, wet wells, and valve boxes.
  • Climb vertically 260+ feet.
