Department Summary:

The Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Division offers comprehensive, nationally and internationally recognized treatment to patients and their care partners. This Division serves as a Center for Excellence for the Parkinson Foundation, CurePSP, Huntington’s Disease and Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBDA).

 

This position requires independent, critical thinking, care coordination, engagement in transitions of care, and the ability to appropriately triage patients with complex medical problems. The RN must collaborate with providers, nurses, medical assistants, schedulers, and all other disciplines as needed, to ensure effective and timely communication with the patient, care partners, and other team members.

 

 

Function/Duties of Position

Working Conditions:

• This position requires onsite presence partnered with telecommuting/remote work (80% on site, 20% Remote).
• Ability to lift, bend, stoop, reach, carry, push, pull and walk throughout the work period. Able to lift 35 lbs independently. Complies with the safe patient mobilization policy when lifting or positioning dependent patients, including using mechanical lifts and coordinating the assistance of other personnel.   
• Must be able to use all senses: seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, and speaking. Reasonable accommodations include corrective lenses and/or hearing aids.
• The work environment carries risk of exposure to human tissue/fluids and radiation.
• Must be able to deal with competing needs and priorities of internal and external customers, including making correct judgments regarding ensuring safe conditions for patients, families, and other personnel.
• Use of all hospital approved clinical equipment. Significant use of computers, copiers, multi-line phones, and fax.

Requirements (competencies, duties, etc.):

 

1. Independent nursing practice

• Direct and indirect patient care
• Assess patient status, apply critical thinking skills and work independently, within RN scope, to perform nursing assessment and develop care plan.
• Timely response to patient MyChart messages, phone calls and routed EPIC encounters from team members.
• Lead nurse visits and actively participate in co-visits with provider, to deliver patient education, care coordination, and triage.
• Patient education about lab/test results, medications, specialty medications/devices, and medical equipment.
• Take initiative to review patient charts before provider visits in preparation for patient assessment.

• • Work with medical assistants to set up labs and other tests prior to patient appointment
  • Meet with patients and present to provider
  • Be proactive and anticipate patient needs

2. Evaluate neurologic issues and understand the management goals and treatment options for movement disorder.

3.  Assist with clinical flow and rooming as needed for break coverage, staffing shortages, and as directed by Nurse Manager.
