Team Overview

BlackRock Active Investment Stewardship (BAIS) is a specialist team which manages BlackRock’s stewardship engagement and voting on behalf of clients invested in active strategies globally. The team sits within BlackRock’s Portfolio Management Group (PMG) which encompasses Fixed Income, Fundamental Equities, Private Credit, Systematic Investments, Multi-Asset Strategies and Solutions and Private Investors Businesses. Our activities are informed by our Global Engagement and Voting Guidelines and insights from active investment analysts and portfolio managers, with whom we work closely in engaging companies.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a new function, and we are looking to build a team of high performing specialists globally.

About the position:

The Associate will support voting operations, reporting and data analytics for BAIS. They will be responsible for building and enhancing our existing operations function through automation and partnering with stakeholders to inform the BAIS Voting and Engagement narrative to BLK clients.

In this role, the Associate will impact a wide range of key functions ranging from client reporting, corporate communications and voting and engagement workflows through the creation, management and usage of various frameworks, tools and processes. Over time, the Associate will support new quantitative research using large data sets – to link our sustainability-related investment convictions to our KPIs and to demonstrate the impact of our engagement and voting on financial value creation by portfolio companies.

The successful candidate possesses a strong attention to detail, a passion for creative problem solving, data infrastructure, and the ability to translate data into a compelling narrative. They will have a desire to learn, as necessary, about corporate governance, ESG data and financial research, as well as proxy voting.

The role reports to the Head of Voting Operations and Business Manager and is based in New York or London.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support voting and engagement operations and client reporting by designing and maintaining a sustainable code stack utilizing BLK applications and tools

  • Develop expertise in third-party proxy vendor platforms, such as ISS Proxy Exchange and Glass Lewis View Point, and how they interface with Aladdin and other external applications and vendors

  • Develop expertise in third party market data platforms to support company research

  • Develop expertise in BlackRock’s Aladdin platform to leverage relevant data sets and applications to support BAIS voting and engagement activity

  • Partner with other analytical functions across BlackRock Solutions, the Aladdin Product Group, and Risk and Quantitative Analysis to build, maintain and improve technological solutions

  • Leverage expertise in automation to enhance voting controls and improve analyst efficiency

  • Support ad-hoc requests as needed for clients, voting and engagement analysts, and Corporate Communications

  • Ensure integrity of the BAIS data environment and oversee the quality control of BAIS proprietary datasets

The ideal candidate will have:

  • At least 3 years of experience in data engineering or quantitative research

  • Undergraduate degree is required, and an advanced degree (Masters) is a plus within a technical field (Computer Science, Statistics)

  • Working knowledge and experience with relational databases and Microsoft SQL Server, Sybase SQL or other scripting and programming languages e.g., R, Python, or C#

  • Experience with corporate financial data, proxy voting, or corporate governance and sustainability topics a plus

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information and convey it in a clear and concise manner


 

For New York, NY Only the salary range for this position is USD$105,000.00 - USD$137,500.00 . Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
