Job Description:

Job Summary:

The Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) is a Master's level licensed provider who is part of the person-centered integrated care team. BHCs provide direct and indirect services to persons served in both behavioral health and primary care departments, working closely with Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners, MDs, and Psychiatrists. They perform routine consultations, clinical intakes, crisis services, and therapeutic assessments and interventions. BHCs facilitate integrated patient care by collaborating with the medical team and providing education about behavioral health and substance use concerns.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Conduct brief crisis interventions and clinical intakes.

  • Provide psycho-educational support groups and brief therapeutic interventions.

  • Maintain productivity and document all services provided.

  • Complete comprehensive assessments for primary care patients referred to specialty psychiatric and/or behavioral health services.

  • Work with the insurance department ensuring authorized services are approved.

  • Correct any file/charting deficiencies within the appropriate time frame.

  • Complete all mandatory training and represent the agency professionally within the community.

  • Maintain positive relationships with referral sources, clients, and coworkers.

  • Assist in professional supervision and provide clinical consultation when necessary.

  • Demonstrate interest in the company's goals and objectives.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Expertise in treating individuals with chronic health conditions, substance use disorders, and mental health issues.

  • Knowledge of caseload management, rehabilitation methods, and integrated treatment services.

  • Understanding of legal requirements and court procedures related to mental illnesses and substance abuse.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and coordinate services for multiple clients.

  • Knowledge of healthcare delivery systems, utilization management, and quality improvement concepts.

Experience and Education Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in social work or counseling, or PhD/PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology.

  • Current unrestricted LCSW, LPC, PhD, or PsyD license.

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience (preferred).

  • Experience working in a medical setting (preferred).

  • N/A

Employment Requirements:

  • Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect and fingerprint check.

  • Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.

  • All training requirements including Relias at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.

  • Current driver’s license, acceptable driving record and current auto insurance.

Physical Requirements:

ADA Consideration - Sedentary work:  Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (exists up the 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (exists 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, or pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Repetitive movements of hands, fingers, and arms for typing and/or writing during work shift.

Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
