The Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR) is seeking a permanent part-time Senior Center Program Coordinator at the Langston Brown Community Center to direct the daily operation of the Senior Center, including planning, implementation, and evaluation of the programs.  This position will manage the Social 60+ Café Program (congregate meal) and transportation program components of a multi-purpose Senior center.  Directly assists the Center Director in daily activities, special events, and programs, including in their absence. 

Specific duties include:

 

  • Daily operation, management, and evaluation of the congregate meal and transportation program to include planning, implementing and evaluating activities and programs for Social 60+ Café participants; 
  • Conduct and monitor all daily administrative activities required to adhere to Federal/State requirements;
  • Coordinate and supervise the work of others to include staff and volunteers involved with congregate meal program and develop and maintain service agreements with the community center, partners, and stakeholders;
  • Communicate and manage daily interaction with service vendors, including utilize translation resources to improve dissemination of information to non-native speakers of English ;
  • Maintain efficient and effective integrated collaboration with the DPR staff, County agencies, and community organizations, including interact daily with participants and citizens to provide excellent phone and face-to-face customer service;
  • Maintain and monitor Center inventories of equipment and supplies for program operation, including developing and maintaining service agreements with the community center, partners, and stakeholders;
  • Prepare accurate daily and monthly reports through computerized system on program attendance, contributions, and meals served, including serve as a host/hostess to promote a welcoming environment for a diverse clientele as café participants arrive, eat their meals, and depart;
  • Develop and offer additional activities to increase socialization aspects of the congregate program; 
  • Attend and participate in scheduled in-service trainings, monthly team meetings and other meetings and trainings as requested; and
  • Comply with County and state standards, policies and procedures and perform other tasks and duties as assigned.

  • Excellent customer service skills which show respect and responding with sensitivity to individuality;
  • Strong administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills along with technology proficiency; and
  • A proven successful track record in developing nurturing relationships and building on individual strengths, and creating an atmosphere where different perspectives, opinions and positions are welcomed, encouraged, and fully explored.
     

Minimums:

  • High school/equivalent; and
  • Some experience administering or providing support in recreational or educational programs and activities for senior adults.

Substitution:  Additional education may be substituted for experience.
Desirable: Preference may be given to applicants with a bachelor's degree in a related field and/or experience in the following: 

  • Recreation program assessment, design, planning, implementation, and evaluation; 
  • Bilingual skills (fluency in English/Spanish); 
  • Working with diverse communities;
  • Proficiency in intermediate level computer skills and office equipment, including Microsoft Office software and Outlook; and
  • Congregate Meal Nutrition Program. Knowledge of food safety and/or Serve Safe Certification.
