The Specialist-Nursing Professional Development (NPD) utilizes NPD practice judgment and expertise to lead initiatives around improving and influencing professional role competence and growth of learners in a variety of settings with a desired outcome to support the IU Health Way. In addition, the Specialist-NPD is an expert in NPD practice and develops tools, theories, skills, and knowledge to advance the practice of the NPD specialty along with mentoring NPD practitioners. This role has six primary responsibilities including onboarding/orientation, competency management, education design, role development, collaborative partnerships, and inquiry and prioritizes work based on the IU Health Promise Dashboard. This role may function at a unit, service-line, facility, regional, or organizational level exhibiting systems thinking to forecast needs, synthesize data, and assess patterns and variances in practice in relation to IU Health’s vision, values, and promise, strategic goals, and national standards and benchmarks.

  • Bachelors Degree of Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Masters in nursing, education or relevant field required.
  • Requires completion of ANCC Nursing Professional Development Certification within 1 year.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies. 
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • 3-5 years of experience in nursing professional development preferred.
  • Must have the ability and willingness to travel as needed to meet the system educational needs.
  • Must have the ability to display knowledge and utilization of principles of adult learning.
