Our Organization and Mission: The Office represents the State of Florida in state and federal civil and criminal courts, from trial courts to the Supreme Court of the United States.
Position Summary: This is in the Office of the Attorney General within the Criminal Appeals Unit in Tallahassee, Florida.
Pay: $77, 219.22 Annually
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association and membership of the Florida Bar. Applicants who are law school graduates but not current members of the Florida Bar and third year law students can be considered; however, proof of the Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor and approval to sit for the Florida bar exam must be provided prior to the date of employment. Any employment offer would be contingent upon admission to the bar within 12 months of the date of employment.
The Work You Will Do: The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
This position requires as a prerequisite to employment a degree of Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and membership in the Florida Bar.
This position works under the direct supervision of a senior level attorney to represent the State of Florida in criminal appellate litigation in the District Courts and Florida Supreme Court in non-capital cases, including:
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Supervision of the timely filing of necessary pleadings and documents comprising the record on appeal.
- Review of the assignments of error.
- Performance of the research necessary to prepare and file briefs setting forth the contentions and positions of the State of Florida with respect to the issues involved.
- Attendance at oral arguments.
- All other responsibilities, attending the prosecution of a criminal appeal.
Handles extraordinary writs in the state and federal courts where appropriate.
Handles any other special assignments or duties assigned by the Bureau Chief, including civil litigation, special projects, post-conviction litigation.
The work described above is assigned in varying degrees of complexity depending upon work experience.
