Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula (BGCP) proudly stands as the largest expanded learning provider in San Mateo County, dedicated to empowering 6,700 TK-College students across 30 sites from East Palo Alto to Daly City. POSITION OVERVIEW
Teen Staff are expected to establish positive relationships with club members and serve as supportive role models within the Academic Success program. Staff will assist youth with homework, provide tutoring support, encourage positive study habits, and help members overcome obstacles that may interfere with academic achievement. Teen Staff will support daily activities in the library and academic spaces while helping create a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment. 

This role is located at Redwood City Clubhouse in Redwood City, CA, and will report to the assigned Department Leader. 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide tutoring, homework help, and academic support to members during program hours
  • Support youth in the library and academic spaces with reading, studying, and educational activities
  • Encourage positive study habits, organization, and participation in learning activities
  • Assist staff with academic enrichment programs, literacy activities, and educational games
  • Help members use computers, technology, and online learning platforms when needed
  • Build positive and supportive relationships with youth and serve as a role model
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the library, academic areas, and supplies
  • Support clubhouse events and assist with additional program activities as needed
  • Perform additional relevant duties as assigned by Clubhouse leadership
  • Perform additional relevant duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum GPA of 2.5 for the academic year while employed with BGCP 
  • Attend all professional development classes 
  • Attend all Teen Staff training 
  • Work no more than the hours outlined on your work permit. If put on probation, teen staff are only allowed to work a max of 5 hours a week until they reach a GPA of 2.0

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; and some stooping, kneeling, bending at the waist, reaching overhead, crouching, squatting, and/or crawling. The role also requires significant fine finger dexterity and near vision acuity. The position may occasionally involve lifting or carrying objects up to 25 pounds. Generally, the job requires approximately 20% sitting and 80% walking or standing. The work environment noise level is typically moderate but may occasionally be louder. All requirements are subject to reasonable accommodations.

Redwood City Clubhouse - Redwood City, CA

WORK SCHEDULE

Monday – Friday, working no more than the hours outlined on your work permit. 

COMPENSATION

  • Employment Status: Part Time-Non Exempt
  • Pay Range: $18.65 per hour
  • Sick Time: Part-time employees accrue sick time at a rate of 1 hour for every 20 hours worked, and may use up to 40 hours per year
