Job Summary:

The University of Colorado Anschutz is seeking a strategic, service-oriented, and collaborative Director of Facilities Support Services (FSS). This senior leadership role reports to the Vice Chancellor of Facilities Management and Planning and serves as a key member of the executive management team. The Director provides leadership and oversight for a broad portfolio of campus support services, including custodial services contract oversight, waste management, bookstore, food services, vending, mail and distribution services, printing and design services, pest control, grounds, roads, parking management, fleet management, snow removal, docks, disposals, event setup and support services, and emergency-response support activities.

The Director is responsible for ensuring reliable, high-quality, transparent, customer-focused service delivery across areas that support CU Anschutz and CU Denver students, faculty, staff, visitors, events, construction interfaces, and day-to-day campus operations. The position develops and implements strategies, processes, standards, training expectations, resource plans, and performance measures that support operational excellence, financial stewardship, safety, regulatory compliance, sustainability, and the University’s mission.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership, Strategy & Employee Engagement

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Facilities Support Services leadership team, including Assistant Directors, managers, supervisors, staff, and student workers in areas of responsibility.

  • Develop and implement long- and short-term goals, policies, procedures, service standards, and operational strategies aligned with campus priorities and departmental objectives.

  • Provide executive leadership for personnel administration, including recruitment strategy, training and development, performance planning and evaluation, coaching, recognition, accountability, and resolution of complex personnel matters in partnership with HR and appropriate campus partners.

  • Serve as Appointing Authority for assigned areas and ensure subordinate leaders complete performance management processes in a timely, constructive, and effective manner.

Service Operations & Resource Management

  • Provide overall management and performance oversight for FSS service lines, including custodial services contract management, waste and recycling, parking, fleet, mail/distribution, food/vending, printing/design, pest control, roads, grounds, snow removal, docks, disposals, and event support.

  • Establish, communicate, and continuously evaluate service expectations with campus clients, including standards, service levels, operational requirements, work processes, and customer-facing outcomes.

  • Develop, monitor, document, and coordinate business and financial processes to ensure sound stewardship, efficient use of resources, and compliance with applicable University, campus, State of Colorado, and federal requirements.
