SPECIFIC DUTIES:
This Statewide Assistant Bureau Chief of Maintenance and Repairs position is located in the Bureau of Maintenance and Repairs in Tallahassee, Florida. The incumbent in this position will assist the Chief of Maintenance and Repairs, Facilities Management and Building Construction in administering the facilities maintenance and repair program for the Department of Corrections. The Bureau includes a staff professionally and technically trained in facility maintenance and repair. This position oversees efforts by the Bureau to work with staff of regional offices, local facilities, the Department of Management Services, regulatory agencies, consulting architects and engineers, and contractors to implement the Departments facility maintenance and repair program. The duties and responsibilities of this position, although not limited to those enumerated below are as follows:
- Serves as the second in command of the bureau. Provides managerial direction and supervision of the four Regional Assistant Chiefs, who oversee the Maintenance Superintendents at the institutions within their region, provide direction and priority of work for building repairs and maintenance, deliver preventive maintenance procedures and programs, and manage their respective repair budgets. Serves as the Acting Bureau Chief in absence of the Chief.
- Serves as the point of contact for all Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) projects. Provides support and assistance to the four Regional Assistant Bureau Chiefs and Maintenance Superintendents for all ADA projects on a statewide basis.
- Assist with the legislative budget request preparations for fixed capital outlay for all for regions. This includes real property, additions, replacements, major repairs, and renovations to real property which materially extend its useful life or improve or change its functional use and including operating capital outlay necessary to furnish and operate a new or improved facility.
- Perform varied types of activities assisting the division by reviewing and managing aspects related to environmental health and safety in FDC managed facilities. Provide technical review and consultation for asbestos, lead, indoor air quality, fuel storage tank management systems, chemical and hazardous waste management, risk minimization, safety compliance, well sampling and testing, universal waste control, and other concerns affecting facility operational demands.
