Sr. Engineer Modeling & Simulation FEA
Faith Technologies IncorporatedAbout the role
A position at FTI can be the answer to your future career. In this role, you’ll be part of a progressive national leader in electrical planning, engineering, technology and energy services. FTI enables employee growth and success through industry-leading training and development, utilization of the latest industry technologies, and an uncompromised focus on safety. We recognize and reward top performers, offering competitive, merit-based compensation, career path development and a flexible and robust benefits package that boasts everything from paid training and tuition reimbursement to an award-winning wellness program.
We are seeking a highly skilled FEA Analysis Engineer to support our research and technology (R&D) development programs and product development projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting structural and thermal impact analysis of enclosures and components under various stresses, loading conditions, and heat rejection of electronic components. Key responsibilities include supporting the design of power distribution enclosures, data center enclosures, switchboards, and battery packs, ensuring robust solutions that optimize material and cost. You will use modeling and simulation to optimize battery pack design and reduce the potential for flaws to guide the build of physical prototypes. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills and experience in finite element analysis (FEA) to support initial concepts, prototype design, and manufacturing.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Structural and thermal impact analysis of power distribution enclosures, switchboard enclosures, data center enclosures (including components like panels, mounting brackets, busbars, wiring, circuit breakers) and battery energy storage systems
- Modeling of enclosures to simulate loading conditions (loading, transporting, environmental conditions) and mechanical stress to identify potential weaknesses in the design and optimize structural integrity before physical prototyping
- Simulate and predict the potential for fatigue failure in a component or structure due to repeated thermal cycles, heat rejection of electronic components, and mechanical stress
- Model the temperature distribution within the structure or battery pack under different thermal loading conditions including heating and cooling cycles
- Optimization of modular enclosure designs (switchboards, UPS, battery pack) to reduce material weight and cost and improve overall robustness and safety
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in FEA modeling
- Proven experience in finite element analysis with use of Ansys, Abaqus, COMSOL or similar software
- Strong knowledge of static and dynamic structural analysis, material strength, and failure modeling for different classes of materials
- Knowledge of CAD design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar
- Familiarity with renewable energy systems, including solar, wind, power conversion, and energy storage systems and containers
- Familiarity with power distribution enclosures including UPS, switchboards, batteries, and power electronics
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret simulation results
- Ability to effectively communicate technical findings and collaborate with cross-functional teams
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
- Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant field
- Experience modeling renewable energy systems, including solar, wind, power conversion, and energy storage systems and containers
- Experience modeling power distribution enclosures including UPS, switchboards, batteries, and power electronics
- Strong understanding of related regulatory frameworks and industry standards related to the relevant energy technologies: Microgrid, Power generation, and Energy storage.
