Senior Nuclear Facility Operations Specialist

The Senior Nuclear Facilities Operations Specialist serves as a Facility Representative/Explosives Worker at explosives facilities. As an integral part of our High Explosives Facilities (HEF) Team, this role coordinates and performs support activities in collaboration with external and internal partners to attain desired success and sustain operations.

 Key Responsibilities

• Serve as a Facility Representative for the day-to-day operations at assigned facilities located at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS).
• Help coordinate facility maintenance and operational activities. Track and deconflict, release maintenance and operational work at facilities and assist personnel with support as needed.
• Conduct facility walkdowns, building access, inspections, rounds, and monitoring equipment, and implement correct actions for discrepancies to maintain facility readiness.
• Ability to be qualified as a Local Emergency Director and perform Operational Drills for assigned locations.
• Complete assigned tasks on time and within the prescribed budget.
• Support operations and maintenance at High Hazard facilities to maintain a condition and configuration to accept and support programs and projects.
• Access buildings, conduct walk-downs, inspections, and/or monitoring rounds to verify facility readiness to conduct or continue operations.
• Perform normal and emergency operation of installed facility structures, systems, and components in support of facility operations.
• Provide support for execution of program/project activities and data collection (i.e., fissile material handling, chemical, explosive, and radiological, etc.)
• Interface and collaborate with external and internal project/laboratory partners and operational management for the assigned facility/project to determine appropriate level and scope of tasks necessary to attain project/operational goals and objectives.
• Comply with established regulations and procedures for environment, safety, health, and quality and perform duties in a way that will not cause personal danger, endanger other individuals, or violate environment, safety, health, and quality regulations.
• Promptly correct or report any hazard or potential hazard to supervision.
• Understand the principles associated with MSTS safety concept.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in field related to the position or equivalent training and experience, plus at least 5 years of relevant, progressively responsible experience, which included 2 years’ experience in nuclear operations or nuclear maintenance such as those found at a DOE nuclear facility, commercial power plant, or US Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program; or experience with high explosives handling and operations; or chemical handling, storage, transfer, and controlled release activities.
• Experience in civilian or military explosive operations including explosives handling, packaging, inspection, inventory, transportation, assembly, firing site set up, firing and post firing operations, abnormal condition clearance, and/or disposition of excess explosives, and experimentation diagnostics strongly desired.
• Experience as Explosives Site Supervisor or Firing Site Leader in civilian or military explosive operations, with demonstrated success in the technical management of explosive operations and facilities, and the supervision of these operations preferred.
