Academic Mentor for Student-Athletes

Overview
The mentor is responsible for working with student - athletes who are experiencing academic difficulties and/or have newly matriculated to Utah State University. The mentor’s role is to serve as a supportive resource for student-athletes and provide them with tools and resources to help them mitigate their identified challenges. Mentoring helps student-athletes learn fundamental academic success skills that can help them become more effective at self-regulating their own learning.

Qualifications
Qualifications to be a Mentor
- Junior, senior or graduate student (students in social work, clinical psychology, counseling, education, family, consumer, human development preferred)
- External university candidates - in social work, clinical psychology, counseling, education, family, consumer, human development or related fields preferred.
- External university candidates must have a bachelor’s degree
- Experience working one-on-one with individuals (preference for those who work or have experience working with students/persons from underrepresented communities)
- Must be ethical, responsible and professional
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience as a tutor, teacher, educator, or interest in pursuing a career in human services preferred but not required
Job Specifications:
- If student: Standing: Junior, Senior or Graduate Student
- External university candidate – bachelor’s degree
- Job does not accept Work Study

Advertised Salary
$15 per hour for Undergraduate and $16 per hour for GraduateADA
Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.
