Become an integral team member of an exciting and innovative program within the Emergency Department Service Line, the New York-Presbyterian Mobile Stroke Treatment Unit (MSTU). The MSTU is a specialized stroke ambulance equipped with an on-board CT scanner, allowing for the treatment of acute stroke patients with intravenous thrombolysis prior to hospital arrival. The multidisciplinary MSTU clinical team will include two paramedics, a radiology technician, and a Registered Nurse (RN), under the supervision of a remote Neurologist using telemedicine for audiovisual connection. In addition to patient care, the MSTU will be involved in clinical research to study the effects of prehospital treatment on stroke patients.
The MSTU RN will have clinical and research responsibilities both on and off the ambulance. In this role you will assist in patient care on the ambulance and work collaboratively with other MSTU team members to improve clinical outcomes and processes of care in the prehospital setting. Additional responsibilities in this role will include performing reliable data acquisition on various time metrics and stroke outcome measures that will be integrated into our established in-hospital stroke program to assist the Stroke NP and Stroke Center Manager with clinical care, performance improvement strategies, educational programs and research initiatives for stroke patients. We are seeking individuals with clinical expertise, leadership potential, and a positive attitude with an interest in stroke, emergency care, and research.
This is a per diem (4 shifts ) required per month , Day shift position 9:00am to 5:00pm for Coverage for the Brooklyn , Queens and Manhattan MSTU ambulance as needed. Holidays are required. Must be Flexible to work in Emergency room dept. as needed , which may include weekends .
Preferred Criteria:
Current training or experience as an Emergency Medical Technician (Basic or Paramedic)
Stroke Certified Registered Nurse Certification (SCRN) or Emergency Certified is preferred
Acute care RN experience in stroke, critical care, and/or emergency medicine
Prior experience in research or clinical trials
Required Criteria:
At least two years of acute care RN experience and in Emergency room experience
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Current New York State RN License
BCLS & ACLS certifications thur AHA

Please note that all roles require on-site presence (variable by role). Therefore, all employees should live within a commutable distance to NYP.
